Donald Trump’s ‘Home Alone’ Cameo
For a short ten-second cameo, we got to see Donald Trump in the second film ‘Home Alone 2’, helping out our favorite protagonist Kevin McCalister. And that was that, until 2020 when director Chris Columbus claimed the Republican ‘bullied his way into the movie’. The ‘Harry Potter‘ director told Business Insider that Trump’s cameo was a condition on them being able to film in his hotel, on top of the usual fee.
In the scene, Kevin gets lost in the Plaza Hotel – which Trump owned back then. Trump’s character then helps the little boy out and directs him by saying ‘Down the hall, and to the left.’
Years later it was revealed that Trump’s cameo wasn’t given to him willingly. Director Chris Columbus said that the former president bullied his way into the film.
The director explained that Trump laid down a condition for letting them shoot the film in his hotel; the director would have to take him in for a short role.
“He did bully his way into the movie,” Columbus said, further adding that Trump said, “The only way you can use the Plaza is if I’m in the movie.”

Donald Trump Responds To ‘Home Alone’ Filmmaker’s Claim
After the accusations from Chris, Trump was furious and spoke out about what really happened. He wrote, “They rented the Plaza Hotel in New York, which I owned at the time.”
He then wrote about how the filmmakers basically begged him to get featured in the film and said, “I was very busy, and didn’t want to do it. They were very nice, but above all, persistent. I agreed, and the rest is history! That little cameo took off like a rocket, and the movie was a big success, and still is, especially around Christmas time. People call me whenever it is aired.”
He then pointed at Chris and said, “Now, however, 30 years later, Columbus (what was his real name?) put out a statement that I bullied myself into the movie. Nothing could be further from the truth.”
Trump then added that he questioned why the director kept him in the film for 30 years if that was the case. He also said that his cameo ‘helped make the movie a success’.
‘Because I was, and still am, great for the movie, that’s why” Trump said, “Just another Hollywood guy from the past looking for a quick fix of Trump publicity for himself!”
