Words on social media hold so much power. It can start a war or maintain peace. If a war started on a social media platform, it was sure to be spread like a wildfire, with support and criticisms, all at the same time. This is what has been happening at a spark of a discussion. The British presenter, Graham Norton has deleted his Twitter account after sparking a debate on transgenders and cancel culture.
Everyone knows that J.K. Rowling is not at all a supporter of the transgender community. She has taken every opportunity she can to make anti-transgender comments on social media platforms. It was one such comment in reply to singer-songwriter Billy Bragg that made Norton delete his Twitter account.

How Did Graham Norton Get Involved?
The argument started off as Billy Bragg praised Norton on his thoughts about cancel culture and transgender rights in a tweet. “Norton really good here on John Cleese, telling him that ‘cancel culture’ is just accountability, and JK Rowling, suggesting that the media talk directly to trans teens and their parents rather than merely amplifying the takes of a celebrity.” Billy Bragg had commented on what Norton had said when talking to Times Radio.
And this is what the television host had said previously when asked about Rowling’s position on trans rights.”When I’m asked about it, I become a part of it. My voice adds nothing to that discussion, and I’m sort of embarrassed that I’m somehow drawn into it…If people want to shine a light on those issues then talk to trans people. Talk to the parents of trans kids, talk to doctors, talk to scientists. Talk to someone who can illuminate it in some way,” Norton had explained. And all this discussion has angered the ‘Harry Potter‘ creator.

This Is What J.K. Rowling Said
Rowling’s distaste about the issue can be sensed in her tweet.“Very much enjoying the recent spate of bearded men stepping confidently onto their soapboxes to define what a woman is and throw their support behind rape and death threats. You may mock, but takes real bravery to come out as an Old Testament prophet,” she wrote. The problem here is that neither Bragg nor Norton had referred to rape or death threats. And above all the statement made by Graham Norton was much focused on John Cleese’s criticism of cancel culture.
