Elon Musk believes that we all need to have more babies to save civilization. The founder and CEO of SpaceX and Tesla has time and again emphasized that humankind must follow his example. He told the Wall Street Journal in 2021, “If people don’t have more children, civilization is going to crumble. Mark my words,” and added, “I’m trying to set a good example.”

So, how many kids does he have? Who are the mothers? What are the names of Musk’s children? Speaking of names, why does he choose strange and seemingly unpronounceable names for them? We’ll answer it all.

How Many Kids Does Elon Musk Have?

The answer is twelve — three with Neuralink executive Shivon Zilis, six with author Justine Wilson, and the other with Grimes. The business mogul’s kids have been born through natural birth, IVF, and surrogacy. One more child that was his firstborn, died in 2002.

Elon Musk is certainly serious about fatherhood being a duty for the civilization as well. He stirred up the population collapse debate again and called himself a “rare exception” as a rich father with many kids. His concerns are – “The foundation of the economy is labor,” he said. “The fundamental constraint is labor. There are not enough people. I can’t emphasize this enough, there are not enough people. And I think one of the biggest risks to civilization is the low birth rate and the rapidly declining birth rate.”

What Are The Names Of His Kids?

Nevada Musk

Elon Musk and Justine Wilson welcomed their son Nevada Alexander Musk in May 2002. Sadly, he died of sudden infant death syndrome (SIDS) at only 10 weeks. In an article for Marie Claire, Justine wrote about losing Nevada: “Nevada went down for a nap, placed on his back as always, and stopped breathing. He was 10 weeks old, the age when male infants are most susceptible to SIDS (Sudden Infant Death Syndrome).” They went ahead with a divorce after the tragedy.

Griffin And Xaiver AKA Vivian

After losing their firstborn, Elon Musk and Justine Wilson went ahead with IVF. The former couple welcomed twin sons Griffin and Xavier Musk in April 2004. Xavier changed her gender at 18 and renamed herself as Vivian.

Kai, Saxon And Damian Musk

Musk and Wilson welcomed triplet sons Kai, Saxon and Damian in January 2006. They were also conceived via IVF. In her 2017 TedTalk, the mother of five announced, “So, I have five kids. Twins and triplets. All boys. No multiples do not run in my family, and, yes, it was IVF, so let’s just get that on the table.”

X AE A-XII And Techno

Musk and Wilson got divorced in 2008. The billionaire had two marriages to Talulah Riley and a brief relationship with Amber Heard before his relationship with Grimes. She gave birth to their son in May 2020 and possibly debuted the most unique name – X Æ A-Xii (formerly X Æ A-12), for the newborn. They had to alter some of the characters in order to comply with California Law. If you are wondering about the meaning, Grimes clarified it on Twitter.

Exa Dark Sideræl And Techno

In March 2022, Grimes revealed that she and her “boyfriend” Elon Musk had welcomed his first daughter, Exa Dark Sideræl Musk, via surrogacy. She also shared that they call their daughter “Y.” Apparently, Exa references “the supercomputing term exaFLOPS (the ability to perform 1 quintillion floating-point operations per second),” while Dark is “the unknown. People fear it but truly it’s the absence of photons. Dark matter is the beautiful mystery of our universe,” according to Grimes. Moreover, Sideræl is derived from the singer’s favorite ‘Lord of the Rings‘ character Galadriel, and an ‘elven’ spelling of sidereal. The couple later confirmed they have a third child, a boy named Techno Mechanicus or Tau was confirmed.

Strider, Azure And An Unnamed Child

Elon Musk and Shivon Zilis, whose kids are a pair of twins–Strider and Azure–reportedly had another baby through IVF in November 2021. The couple had its third baby earlier this year, although the child’s gender and name were not yet disclosed. “All our friends and family know. Failure to issue a press release, which would be bizarre, does not mean ‘secret‘,” Elon Musk said.

Celebrities love to give their kids unusual names. For example, Frank Zappa’s children are named Moon Unit, Dweezil, and Diva Thin Muffin. Then Jason Lee and Beth Riesgraf son Pilot Inspektor, Lucky Blue Smith, and Stormi Bree’s daughter Gravity, and the list goes on. However, the list of celebrities with unique names for their children is incomplete without Elon Musk.

During a podcast with comedian Joe Rogan, Musk talked about the unique name of his son X Æ A-Xii and how it was Grimes’ idea. He said, “First of all, my partner’s the one that mostly came up with the name. I mean it’s just X, the letter X, and the ‘Æ’ is pronounced, ‘Ash,’ and then, A-12 is my contribution.” He then explained how ‘A-12’ stood for “Archangel 12, the precursor to the SR-71, coolest plane ever.” The former couple calls their son ‘X’.

Their daughter Exa Dark Sideræl also has an incredibly nerdy name, which was again deemed weird by many social media users as they tried to decode the meaning. Well, we think it is Musk and Grimes’ way of making their kids’ names stand out in the crowd and a sure-shot nod to math and physics. Musk is now dating Natasha Bassett – an Australian actress. The business magnate has expressed his desire to have more children. We will just have to wait and see Musk’s brood expands further.
