Twitter Will Lay Off Its Employees Today
On Thursday night, on behalf of Twitter employees, the micro-blogging site was embroiled in a class-action lawsuit. The platform sent a memo to all its employees informing them about the global layoff.
The memo shared with the employees on Thursday read, “Team, in an effort to place Twitter on a healthy path, we will go through the difficult process of reducing our global workforce on Friday.” Musk is aiming at cutting half of Twitter’s 7,500 global workforces.
It continued, “We recognize that this will impact a number of individuals who have made valuable contributions to Twitter, but this action is unfortunately necessary to ensure the company’s success moving forward.”

“They Have An Avenue For Pursuing Their Rights”: Attorney Filed A Lawsuit Against Twitter
In retaliation to the memo sent and the layoffs that will happen today, the attorney Shannon Liss-Riordan has filed a lawsuit in San Francisco. As per The Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification Act, workers need to be informed two months prior if they are getting sacked.
The attorney informed, “We filed this lawsuit tonight in an attempt to make sure that employees are aware that they should not sign away their rights and that they have an avenue for pursuing their rights.” She continued, “We will now see if he is going to continue to thumb his nose at the laws of this country that protect employees. It appears that he’s repeating the same playbook of what he did at Tesla.”
In June 2022, the Tesla owner also sacked 10% of the employees at the electric car company, because he had a “super bad feeling” about the economy. He said that they are laying off 10% of the salaried employees due to overstaffing in many areas.
The Twitter office will be shut “temporarily” starting today. The memo also said, “To help ensure the safety of each employee as well as Twitter systems and customer data, our offices will be temporarily closed and all badge access will be suspended. If you are in an office or on your way to an office, please return home.”
