Who Was Georgia Holt, The Mother Of Cher?
Born Jackie Jean Crouch, Georgia Holt was a singer-songwriter, actress, and model. She acted in films like ‘Grounds for Marriage’, ‘The Adventures of Ozzie and Harriet’, and ‘A Life of Her Own’ etc.
In 1980, she recorded an album Honky Tonk Woman after being offered a contract by Columbia Records. It was backed by several members of Elvis Presley’s band.
In her early days, Holt won several singing beauty competitions and even landed a role in the 1950s ‘The Asphalt Jungle‘. But the role went to Marilyn Monroe. Holt married and got divorced six times throughout her life. Apart from Cher, her other daughter is actress Georganne LaPiere. From 1976 till the time she died, Holt was in a relationship with Craig Spencer.

How Did She Die?
Holt passed away at the age of 96 on Saturday, December 10. Though no detail of her death has been given, it is assumed that she died because of age-related illnesses.
Cher took to Twitter on December 11 to announce the sad news. “Mom is gone,” she wrote with a sad face emoji.

In 2013, Cher and Holt along with Cher’s half-sister Georganne La Piere on the Mother’s Day Lifetime documentary film ‘Dear Mom, Love Cher.’ In it, the trio talked about their relationship with each other.
Holt was aware that she was getting gigs because she was Cher’s mother in the 1970s-80s. “I know that a record company might want to sign me just because I’m Cher’s mother,” she said in 1978. “I’d like to have a career, but I’m not going to be a novelty or a flash in the pan. A lot of people say I can do it.”
