Jason Momoa is returning to the DC Universe but not as the character we know him for. Instead of Aquaman, the actor will take on the role of the iconic antihero Lobo in the highly anticipated film ‘Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow.’
With its star cast and the anticipation around it, the film is on a path to success. Now, with Momoa’s inclusion confirmed, fans are even more excited for the film.
Jason Momoa Has Always Been A Fan Of Lobo
‘Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow’ stars Milly Alcock from ‘House of the Dragon’ as Kara Zor-El, aka Supergirl. Additionally, it is set to be the second film in James Gunn’s revamped DC Universe following ‘Superman’, featuring David Corenswet as Superman.

Momoa took to Instagram to confirm the news. He shared a nostalgic nod to an earlier interview where he spoke about his passion for Lobo, a character known for his violent, chaotic nature and dark humor. “I collect comics, and I don’t do so much anymore, but he was always my favorite,” Momoa said in the interview.
“I always wanted to play Lobo… It’s the perfect role.” His caption simply read: “They called.” Production begins on January 13, 2024, with a release date set for June 26, 2026. Moreover, while details about the plot are scarce, Gunn has promised a darker, grittier take on Supergirl, emphasizing her tragic upbringing on Krypton.
Why ‘Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow’ Was Chosen For DCU Phase Two
In an interview with Omelete.com, James Gunn shared insights into why ‘Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow’ became the second film in the new DCU lineup. Initially, it wasn’t planned. However, the strength of Ana Nogueira’s script shifted priorities.

“I didn’t necessarily know that Supergirl would be the second movie we were going to make,” Gunn said. “But Ana wrote an incredible script, and then we hired an incredible director. Other movies have been written, but they haven’t been as good as this one. Quality comes first in every project we do.”
This focus on quality storytelling underscores Gunn’s approach to rebuilding the DC Universe. Moreover, the goal of the new DCU is to craft emotionally resonant, character-driven films. And ‘Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow’ is also on the same path.
