The 1984 ‘Footloose‘ starring Kevin Bacon and Lori Singer is a timeless musical movie. In it, Kevin Bacon portrayed the role of Ren McCormack, the rebellious Chicago kid who moves to a small town where he discovers that rock music and dancing are illegal.
Released almost 38 years ago, the movie had exceptionally choreographed moves, backflips, synchronized kicks, and hip hop sequences like popping and locking. Bacon recently reminisced about the movie and along the way revealed that the original ending of the movie was different from what we see in the movie.

Kevin Bacon Reveals The Alternate ‘Let’s Dance!’ Ending Scene
The original ending was planned to be a slow-motion scene fading out after Bacon’s iconic line, “Let’s Dance!” However, Bacon shared that the ending quite didn’t fit in place. “I run into the place, I say, ‘Let’s dance!’ and there’s like a moment of dancing, and then right away, it goes into slow motion,” Bacon told EW. “There’s glitter falling from the sky, and everyone is just moving in slow motion. This was the original ending.”
After the movie was tested in the studio, they said that the ending ‘doesn’t work at all.‘ Bacon further added, “Everyone wants to get up and dance at the end of this movie.”
A New Band Of Dancers From L.A. Was Brought In
The alternate ending wasn’t shot the next day or the next month. The final wrap-up process took one year because of the ending shot. Recalling the memorable last scene, Kevin shared, “We still kept the ‘Let’s dance!’ and me running down the stairs. But from that point on, it was choreographed and L.A. dancers were hired. Chris Penn was out there — and me and Lori [Singer]. We had to gather the cast together and try to get the hair to match. That was a completely re-shot ending.”
A few years back, Kevin Bacon also shared that he had auditioned for the movie without knowing that he’d have to perform a professional level of dancing. “The script didn’t really indicate anything.” Bacon shared with The Post. “It just said, ‘and then they dance,’ and again, ‘and then they dance,’ I thought it was like when you’re in a bar, and you start moving around. I said, ‘I don’t know if you really need a choreographer, because I just like to dance. Why don’t you just let me dance, and turn the camera on?” Bacon had a challenge in front of him as gymnastics, balancing on the high bars, and complicated dance skills weren’t his cup of tea. The actor said that the dance lessons he received were “tough” and “frustrating.”
