As a result of the sexual assault prosecution brought against him in the U.K., Kevin Spacey will no longer be headlining the upcoming Genghis Khan movie titled ‘1242: Gateway to the West‘.
The actor was supposed to play the role of a holy man living in a Hungarian castle who tries to prevent one of Genghis Khan’s armies from conquering Europe in the historical drama. The film was being shopped around at the Cannes 2022 film market also, but now, Spacey has been dropped from the film.

Kevin Spacey Dropped From ‘1242: Gateway To The West’
In light of the numerous sexual assault claims leveled against him since 2017, Kevin Spacey is expected to be replaced in one of his upcoming film projects. Formerly slated to star in filmmaker Péter Soós’ historical drama ‘1242: Gateway to the West‘, the 62-year-old actor has dropped out, according to a Galloping Entertainment agent who handled the film’s sales.
“I can indeed be confirmed that Kevin Spacey has been removed from the project,” Galloping Entertainment’s Carlos Alperin shared. “We’ll soon announce who will replace him.”
Confirmation from the actor’s legal team was not immediately available, but Spacey is expected to stand trial in June 2023 in the U.K. on accusations he pleaded not guilty to last week.
After Spacey’s departure from the film, Variety shared that Genghis Khan’s European invasion had been stopped by the Hungarian holy man, who was to be played by Spacey. The actor was dropped due to sexual assault allegations. The alleged attacks took place from 2005 until 2013 in the U.K.
Anthony Rapp Accused Spacey Of Sexual Harassment
As a 14-year-old boy, actor Anthony Rapp accused Spacey of making unwelcome sexual attempts on him. He maintained his innocence throughout the claims from more than a dozen people, and apologized to Rapp but noted that he had no memory of the incident.
Spacey is still scheduled to feature in other movies, including Louis Nero’s ‘The Man Who Drew God‘, and the producer assured he wasn’t concerned about the claims against the actor.
“In Italy, we don’t know details on everything, so we don’t speak about what we don’t know about,” Nero said. “I cannot speak about these things. I only know that Kevin is a great actor. That was my concern and no more than that.” That was all that mattered to me, and nothing else.”
‘Peter Five Eight‘ is another upcoming picture in which Spacey will feature. The producers have already stated their support for the actor.
