Think you know how the iconic ‘The Naked Gun‘ films achieved their legendary comedic perfection? Apparently, surviving a take alongside the amazing Leslie Nielsen took immense mental strength—something his co-stars were not prepared for. While everything seemed perfect on screen, things were far from orderly, to say the least.

As audiences admired a seemingly unshakable protagonist of the comedy series, Priscilla Presley remembered how things worked behind the scenes with Nielsen quite differently. The secret behind their undeniable chemistry involves a chaotic mix of hidden tears, strategic avoidance, and a brilliant deadpan style that constantly turned the set into a battle against unstoppable laughter.

Collaborating with Leslie Nielsen for ‘The Naked Gun‘ movies turned out to be a rather memorable experience for Priscilla Presley due to the actor’s ability to ruin almost all scenes because of uncontrollable laughter.

As described by the actress at FanExpo San Francisco, they needed to redo scenes multiple times because Nielsen could not stop laughing while doing his takes. While audiences universally remember Leslie for his iconic deadpan expressions, Presley revealed he was a very cheerful actor who loved playing jokes on his co-stars on set.

In particular, Priscilla recalled that both she and Leslie laughed uncontrollably when shooting some scenes, so they often needed to repeat them over and over.

The actress explained that Leslie once laughed so hard he began crying, and then the director had to stop the take and warn the stars to behave. Despite the warning, Presley admitted it was difficult to concentrate due to Leslie’s jokes during a take.

To prevent ruining scenes, she sometimes pretended she did not see him and looked away.

“It was difficult to get through a scene with Leslie Nielsen. He was great, and I miss him very much, but he passed. It was hard to get through these things, laughing at each other. He would start laughing, crying with laughing until the director would come and he would say ‘Okay kids, we’re going to take this seriously’. Now we’re on our fourth take,” Presley stated.

Her statements gave a rare opportunity to peek into the behind-the-scenes life of the popular franchise.

While sharing her experiences, Priscilla also mentioned how Nielsen stood out as an extremely talented comedian. Presley said his biggest strength was his deadpan expression and delivery. Later on, that became the hallmark of the movies’ success and the reason why audiences liked them.

The actress noted that Leslie’s deadpan expressions made it seem as if nothing funny happened to the characters on screen. In particular, his seemingly calm demeanor created an impression that he was taking everything very seriously.

Consequently, that style made every scene Presley shot with him more amusing. Not to forget her contributions to the movie, she reminded viewers, “Well, I was good too,” after mentioning Leslie.

However, Priscilla’s statement was also tinged with nostalgia, as she admitted missing her co-star, who passed away in 2010. Their incredible on-screen chemistry helped turn the three films into memorable Hollywood comedy classics.
