The Golden Raspberry Awards, also known as the Razzies, give annual awards to films, actors, actresses, directors, etc for the worst work in their respective fields. The award is intended to be humorous and there have been a number of occasions where several big stars personally accepted them.
However, recently the award was at the end of severe backlash for one of its nominations. For the 43rd edition of the award, 12-year-old Ryan Kiera Armstrong was nominated in the Worst Actress category for her role in last year’s poorly received horror film ‘Firestarter.’

Razzies Was Slammed For Nominating Ryan Kiera Armstrong
The Razzies don’t spare anyway and always call out the industry’s worst through their Golden Raspberry Awards. However, this time around, things went too far with one of their nominations.
According to Variety, for their 43rd edition, they nominated the 12-year-old actress Ryan Kiera Armstrong in the Worst Actress category. Ryan had played the lead role in last year’s poorly received horror film ‘Firestarter.’
Several people, including child actors, called out the organization for nominating a young child. Child actor Devon Sawa wrote in a now-deleted tweet that the Razzies “are run by soulless people“. He further wrote, “That child could grow to be amazing if you haven’t gotten in their head.” ‘WandaVision‘ child actor Julian Hilliard also slammed Razzies and called them “mean-spirited & classless” and called the nomination “repulsive & wrong.”

The Organization Have Issued An Apology
‘Firestarter‘ received a nod for Worst Remake/Rip-off/Sequel. The film was an adaptation of Stephen King’s eponymous novel and a remake of the 1984 film. After its release, the film met with poor reviews.
Right after the backlash, Razzies founder John Wilson issued an apology and stated that people under 18 will not be eligible to be nominated for the awards.
He said that the criticism has “brought our attention to how insensitive we’ve been in this instance.” Wilson further added that “a public apology is owed Ms. Armstrong, and wish to say we regret any hurt she experienced as a result of our choices.”
