James Cameron, director of ‘Avatar: The Way of Water’ has called the film the worst business case in movie history. One acclaimed reason for this has come forward to be its massive expense. Cameron says that this sequel to ‘Avatar’ was so expensive that it will have to threaten the record books. Or else, the movie won’t even be able to break even.
Cameron said this in an interview with GQ. This interview was released just a few weeks ago. Cameron also talked about the movie’s expenses in interviews with Disney and 2Oth Century. Even though James hasn’t put forward the exact budget, experts have estimated the amount to be around $250 million.

How Much Does James Cameron’s ‘Avatar 2’ Need To Break Even?
‘Avatar 2’ AKA ‘Avatar: The Way of Water’ has cost James Cameron more than it would take most high-budget films to break even. To estimate how much the movie cost him, Cameron said in an interview, “You have to be the third or fourth highest-grossing film in history. That’s your threshold. That’s your break even.”
Any figure under $2 billion would be a loss for Cameron and the film. To make it even, ‘Avatar 2’ has to beat not only ‘Star Wars: The Force Awakens,’ but also compete with ‘Avengers: End Game’. The first edition of ‘Avatar,’ which was created by Cameron himself still stands as the highest-grossing movie ever.

How Does James Cameron Face Impossible Odds Every Time?
As with ‘Avatar: The Way of Water,’ James Cameron is said to be facing some high odds due to huge expenses. Plus, it has been 13 years since the first film was released in 2009. Fans have seemingly questioned the cultural impact of this sequel. However, this isn’t the first time that his ambitions have led up to these odds.
As mentioned in GQ, this isn’t Cameron’s first “most expensive” movie. His previous movies, ‘Terminator 2: Judgement Day’ and ‘Titanic’ were also the most expensive movies at the time of their release. Even though his movies include an extreme amount of risk, we can’t deny that the numbers have been with him every time.
