Well, someone said it out loud. During the press conference for ‘Killers of the Flower Moon‘, Robert De Niro expressed his emotion towards former US President Donald Trump. The actor compared Trump to a twisted character from his own film which embodies the same kind of evil as the ex-president.
The legendary De Niro stars alongside Leonardo DiCaprio in Martin Scorsese’s epic ‘Killers of the Flower Moon‘, which premiered to rave reviews at the Cannes Film Festival. De Niro plays a real-life dignitary from 1920s rural America, William Hale.

Robert De Niro’s Thoughts On Donald Trump
According to Variety, Robert De Niro drew parallels between his character and Donald Trump, whose name the actor initially refused to say out loud at the press conference. De Niro admitted that he struggled to connect with the character of convicted murderer William Hale, saying, “I don’t understand a lot about my character. Part of him is sincere. The other part, where he’s betraying (the Osage tribe), there’s a feeling of entitlement. We became a lot more aware (of that dichotomy) after George Floyd with systemic racism.”
Robert De Niro plays a real-life dignitary from 1920s rural America, William Hale, who built trust with local Osage Indians and then orchestrated dozen of murders in order to steal their oil-rich land. De Niro revealed during the Cannes interview, “I don’t understand a lot about him- why he betrays them. But we became a lot more aware after the murdering of George Floyd with systemic racism and that’s what this is”, De Nero said, referring to the police killing that sparked the Black Lives Matter protests.
He further added, “It’s like with Trump- I had to say it, he said to laughter from the reporters. There are people who think he could do a good job. Imagine insane that is”.

What Is ‘Killers Of The Flower Moon’ About?
‘Killers of the Flower Moon‘ is an American epic Western crime drama starring Robert De Niro and Leonardo DiCaprio. The film is based on a 2017 book of the same name written by David Grann. DiCaprio has received particular praise for his performance as a week-willed man torn between his love for his Osage Indian wife and the evil plot in which he becomes mired.
However, it took Martin Scorsese seven years to put together the entire film. He is the man behind the three masterpieces ‘The Departed‘, Taxi Driver, and Goodfellas. Although even after seven years, the final product of the film did not turn out as Scorsese and DiCaprio expected, they wanted to stick with the original source.
