The actress who found fame with Steven Spielberg’s remake of the 1951 classic ‘The West Side Story‘ responded directly when asked about her motivation to do ‘Shazam: Fury Of The Gods.’

Rachel Zegler found it hard to book jobs because of COVID-19. ‘The West Side Story‘ wasn’t out yet, making it hard for the then-unknown young actress. But with ‘Shazam: Fury Of The Gods,’ things look better for her as she’s part of one of the world’s most famous movie franchises.

Rachel Zegler Gets Candid About Landing A Role In ‘Shazam: Fury Of The Gods’

Due to the global pandemic, she couldn’t book a film to save her life. On the premiere of ‘Shazam: Fury Of The Gods,’ Rachel Zegler told The Hollywood Reporter she “needed a job. I’m being so serious.” Being stuck in the global pandemic made it hard for work to come to by, as she couldn’t land any parts to save her life. Also, ‘The West Side Story‘ wasn’t out then, which would have made her life much easier.

Rachel Zegler plays Anthea in ‘Shazam: Fury Of The Gods.’ A huge fan of the first film, she talked about being beyond excited about landing the role “I loved the first movie, and the fact that they even wanted me to come in for a callback and then a camera read and then everything in between, I’m so lucky that I got this job,” she added. “I made some of my best friends on this job. I just absolutely adore this movie, too, so I’m excited.“

Rachel Zegler is calling out the unfair critical bashing of ‘Shazam: Fury Of The Gods‘. She took to Twitter to rally more support for her DCU debut, saying “Hey our film is actually really good! But mostly i just absolutely loved making it and the people i met whilst doing so 🙂 go see it! give it a chance. we have an 85 per cent audience score for a reason.”

Rachel Zegler also added, “Some people out there and just being… senselessly mean. And it’s unnecessary. And i know, i know, ‘if you can’t handle the heat…’ and all that nonsense, and you’re right. but our film is actually very good. it’s just cool to hate on fun nowadays. that’s okay. we’re good.“
