From models to actresses, there are so many celebrities who have openly talked about their mental health issues. Anxiety, and panic attacks, actress Emma Stone has been struggling with from a very young age. But the actress turned her power slowly into a superpower through the years.
Kendall Jenner had recently pointed out her anxiety as a reason why she didn’t think of having kids soon. At the same time, Gisele Bündchen had also talked about suffering from panic attacks at the peak of her career. The list doesn’t end here. Adele, Ryan Reynolds, Selena Gomez, Dwayne Johnson, and many others have openly discussed their issue. Emma Stone is one of the earliest among them.
Emma Stone Struggled With Anxiety Through Her Life
Emma Stone had a conversation on mental health back in 2018. She was participating in a session with Advertising Week in New York City. The ‘La La Land‘ actress had her first panic attack when she was a kid just before moving to second grade. And Stone describes it to be “really, really terrifying and overwhelming”.
“I was at a friend’s house, and all of a sudden I was convinced the house was on fire and it was burning down,” the Academy Award winner recalled. She shared how she knew it was not on fire but there wasn’t anything that could stop her from believing that they were not gonna die.
The young Stone turned to therapy and was diagnosed with general anxiety and panic disorder. She didn’t know about it back then as it would have affected her career. The reason is that many celebrities didn’t talk about mental health issues back then.

Turning Mental Health Issues To ‘Superpower’
Emma Stone turned her mental health issues into one of her special skills. She details how the struggle has helped her connect with people and nurture her character. The ‘Cruella’ actress believes that her internal struggles have helped her become more empathetic. “There is a tendency to want to understand how people around you work or what’s going on internally with them which is great for characters,” the actress explained.
The 34-year-old also has reason to say that a mental health illness is a ‘superpower’. She tells us to master our weaknesses. “And if you don’t let it cripple you and you use it for something positive and productive, it’s like a superpower,” she said in 2018. Also noting how smart and sensitive, people with anxiety and depression can be.
