‘The Boys’ Star Jensen Ackles Says He Is Interested In Playing ‘Batman’

Of late, several actors have made it clear that they want to play ‘Batman.’ There’s yet another illustrious actor who has joined the list, and that is Jensen Ackles. The Boys star recently pitched himself for the role.

What’s also interesting is that he shares a unique connection to the superhero world. This goes beyond Eric Kripke’s universe, and here’s how his past works tie in with his dream role!

Jensen Ackles Pitches Himself For DCU’s Batman

At the 2023 Jus in Bello convention in Italy, Ackles was asked if he would play Batman someday. He readily agreed to the idea, saying: 

Would I entertain the idea of playing my favorite superhero of all time? Nah, I’m good. It seems like a lot of work, you know. You gotta put on a bat suit and be a superhero. I would love it. Sign me up.” 

The actor also spoke about the strikes that happened at that time. It reflected the growing uncertainty, but he seemed stoked about the idea.

In a 2025 interview with Collider, he was asked which Batman he would play in the live-action version. He also stated previously that he wanted to play Dark Knight, and this is what the actor had to say: 

“I would probably have to lean heavily on Gunn and whoever’s directing and whoever’s writing it, and get inspiration from the text.”

Ackles’ role in the live-action Batman has not been confirmed as of yet. He did, however, play the character, and it seems that his superhero connection goes beyond The Boys’ universe.

Beyond The Boys Universe

Before he was Soldier Boy in The Boys, he played the role of a loving and caring boyfriend in CW’s Smallville.

Yes, it’s the infamous and most celebrated series starring Kristin Kreuk and Tom Welling in central roles. Ackles played the role of Jason Teague, Lana Lang’s boyfriend.

He started as a caring boyfriend but was consumed by the obsession for both Stones of Power and Lana. 

The character also partook in murders along the way and was eventually killed off by a meteor in Season 4.

Aside from that, Ackles has actively worked as a voice actor for DCU’s films. He voiced the role of Batman in The Long Halloween, Legion of Superheroes, Justice League: Warworld, and Justice League: Crisis of Infinite Earths.

The actor also voiced Jason Todd, aka Red Hood, in Batman: Under the Red Hood, but that’s not all. He lent his voice to several video game franchises, including Tron Evolution and standalone games such as Atomic Heart. 

There have been several rumors of him joining DCU’s live-action Batman. This was after he expressed his wish to be cast as the legendary hero in several of his interviews.

As of now, Ackles is currently working on The Vought Rising, where he will reprise his role as Soldier Boy. He is also the executive producer for the Amazon Prime series.
