Tom Hardy is taking a big step back from acting, and it’s going to surprise a lot of people. The British star said he will start a “major career break” right after he finishes filming his Paramount+ crime show, ‘MobLand‘.
People close to the ‘Venom‘ and ‘Mad Max: Fury Road‘ actor told several news outlets that the 48-year-old is planning a long break that could last a few years. This decision came after Hardy finished work on the second season of the Guy Ritchie show. He has called that role physically and emotionally draining.
Why Tom Hardy Needs Time Off

Insiders say Hardy, who plays a tough “fixer” named Harry Da Souza in the London gangster story, really wants “to take a break” so he can recover and be with his wife, actress Charlotte Riley, and their two children. The father of three has already been seen taking a quiet beach vacation in Barbados as his time off begins.

The main reason for the pause seems to be how hard Hardy’s career has been on his body. He is known for transforming his body for roles such as Bane in ‘The Dark Knight Rises‘ and the main character in ‘Venom‘. Lately, he opened up about the lasting damage from years of doing action scenes.

A source told the Daily Mail how serious things are and said Hardy cleared his schedule “so he can have a rest.” The insider added that because Hardy is “one of the busiest men in the filming industry,” his wife Charlotte “must never see him, but now she won’t be able to get enough of him.”
What Fans Can Expect from ‘MobLand’ Season Two and Tom Hardy’s Return

Even with the break, fans will still see Hardy on screen soon. The second season of ‘MobLand‘ is set to come out in 2026. The show also stars Helen Mirren and Pierce Brosnan and follows a violent fight for power between two Irish crime families in London.
While promoting the first season, Hardy talked about his violent roles and told Parade that the mental challenge of ‘MobLand‘ was especially tough. He said his character is “a bit of a monster,” trying to balance home life with criminal violence.
For now, Hardy says he might try stem cell therapy to help with his pain. But he is clear that he does not see himself doing romantic comedies. “I don’t think I suit rom-coms,” he told The Hollywood Reporter, which pretty much guarantees that when he does come back, it will be for another hard-hitting role.
