The Rust Shooting incident that took place in October last year shook not just Hollywood but the entire nation. It caused an uproar and a demand for a blanket ban on using real guns on the sets of films or television shows. The production of the film has since been indefinitely suspended.
Now the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI)’s forensic reports as well as the medical investigator report have been completed. The report has findings that shed some more light on the horrific incident. It led to the death of the film’s director of photography, Halyna Hutchins.

FBI Report Says Alec Baldwin Pulled The Trigger
The 2021 ‘Rust‘ shooting incident involved its lead actor Alec Baldwin mistakenly shooting the film’s cinematographer Halyna Hutchins with a prop gun. She passed away later on.
According to a report from ABC News, the FBI’s forensic analysis and the New Mexico medical investigator’s report have been completed. They have been turned over to the sheriff’s office.
The report concludes that Hutchins’ death was caused by a gunshot wound to the chest by Alec Baldwin. It also said that a “review of available law enforcement reports showed no compelling demonstration that the firearm was intentionally loaded with live ammunition on set.”
“Based on all available information, including the absence of obvious intent to cause harm or death, the manner of death is best classified as accident,” the medical investigator’s postmortem report said.
Baldwin Had Said He Didn’t Pull The Trigger In ‘Rust’ Shooting Incident
In a December 2021 interview, Alec Baldwin talked about the ‘Rust’ shooting incident in detail. The 64-year-old actor claimed he had not pulled the trigger of the gun.
“She was standing next to the camera, looking at a monitor … guiding me for how to hold the gun for this angle,” Baldwin said.
He said that Halyna told him to cock the gun’s hammer for a shot. “I pulled the hammer as far back as I could without cocking the gun,” Baldwin added. “I let go of the hammer and bang, the gun goes off.”
The forensic reports suggest that the gun was able to detonate a primer “without a pull of the trigger when the hammer was struck directly.” It is considered to be normal for the type of revolver used for the film.
On October 21, 2021, Halyna was accidentally shot and killed on the set of the western flick ‘Rust‘ by Baldwin. The film’s director Joel Souza was also injured.
