While the MCU has been earning profits all these years, there is another franchise of Marvel which has also been a huge success and that is none other than ‘X-Men.’ The franchise was going fine until 2019 when ‘Dark Phoenix‘ was released and it bombed at the box office. It was the last film of the franchise to release prior to Disney’s acquisition of 20th Century Fox.
The producers possibly didn’t expect ‘Dark Phoenix‘ to flop and it was shocking news for everyone considering that it was ending the franchise. But the box office reports and critical reception of the film raised questions about the future of the franchise and following the acquisition of 20th Century Fox, all the future films were canceled. So, what will happen now?

Is A Reboot of ‘X-Men’ Happening?
During the San Diego Comic-Con in 2022, Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige announced the upcoming projects for MCU, but he did not say anything about the ‘X-Men’ films. This was unexpected as the rights to the ‘X-Men’ films went back to Marvel Studios following the acquisition of 20th Century Fox.
For now, an animated series named ‘X-97’ has been confirmed along with ‘Deadpool 3.’ But audiences are eagerly waiting to witness the mutants once again on the big screen. Moreover, fans of the franchise remember that Kamala Khan was also revealed as a mutant towards the end of ‘Ms. Marvel.’
Meanwhile, journalist Devin Faraci disclosed that an ‘X-Men’ movie was not announced at the Comic-Con because there were some contractual issues with Fox and a new ‘X-Men’ movie is impossible until 2025. So the producers have to wait until the contract expires. But MCU has already teased a few things including Professor X’s appearance in ‘Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness.’

What Kevin Feige Said About ‘X-Men’ Films
While audiences were waiting for a new ‘X-Men’ film, Kevin Feige spoke to Deadline in 2022 saying that they are close to announcing a new project. He added: “That’s what Jennifer Walters just asked the robot in the final episode of She-Hulk and I’ll give you the same answer he gave, which is – I don’t remember, no answer is what I think he gave. But ‘Deadpool’ and ‘Wolverine’ [are both in upcoming MCU installment ‘Deadpool 3’], y’know, we’re getting close.”
Meanwhile, ‘Deadpool 3’ will be the first installment from the ‘X-Men’ lineup which would make its debut in the MCU. Hugh Jackman is also confirmed to reprise his role as Wolverine in the film.
