King Charles Left The Front Seat Empty At Queen’s Funeral As A Tribute
The empty seat left by the king was hard to miss by the billions of spectators who saw the funeral. You might be thinking of the reason for this absurd detail at a place where nothing goes out of place. According to the facts, the seat in the front was left empty due to royal protocol. This was done so that the monarch can have a clear view of the proceedings if he/she wasn’t sitting in the first row. Royal commentator Richard Fitzwilliam said, “The seat in front of the Queen is always left empty.”
In addition to that, the seat has been the place the Queen sat on for years. Not only this, she sat on it during Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s wedding. It’s also the same seat she sat on for Prince Phillip’s funeral in 2021. Fitzwilliams added that this was Queen Elizabeth’s “favorite seat in St George’s Chapel”.
What Were The King’s Last Words To The Queen?
King Charles had a very close and loving relationship with his mother. Reportedly he arranged special flowers for the royal coffin from the gardens of Buckingham Palace, Clarence House and Highgrove House. Moreover, the royal family tweeted details about the wreath. They wrote: “At The King’s request, the wreath contains foliage of Rosemary, English Oak and Myrtle (cut from a plant grown from Myrtle in The Queen’s wedding bouquet) and flowers, in shades of gold, pink and deep burgundy, with touches of white, cut from the gardens of Royal Residences.“
He gave a heartwarming speech at the funeral. He said, “And to my darling Mama, as you begin your last great journey to join my dear late Papa, I want simply to say this: thank you. Thank you for your love and devotion to our family and to the family of nations you have served so diligently all these years. May ‘flights of Angels sing thee to thy rest’.“
In the note that he left on the royal coffin, the King wrote, “In loving and devoted memory. Charles R.”
