Why Is Elon Musk Pausing The Relaunch Of Twitter’s $8 Verification Plan?

Ever since Elon Musk took over Twitter, he has been in the news for all the wrong reasons. He laid off nearly half of the employees, including the CEO and CFO. This was followed by mass resignations because of harsh work rules ordered by the world’s richest man.

Musk also introduced an $8 monthly subscription plan for the verified accounts which had to be withheld after several fake accounts got verified. Now, the 51-year-old billionaire has paused its relaunch. Let’s find out the reason behind the pause.

Musk had come up with the plan to charge $8 a month to verified accounts of individuals and organizations on Twitter. However, it had to be withheld after several fake profiles ended up getting verified.

Now, the SpaceX founder has paused its relaunch. On Tuesday, he took to Twitter to announce this news and wrote, “Holding off relaunch of Blue Verified until there is high confidence of stopping impersonation.”

He also said, “Will probably use different color check for organizations than individuals.” This plan has been widely criticized by users and celebrities.

However, Musk has defended his actions and said that the blue check mark will be the “great leveler“. “Widespread verification will democratize journalism & empower the voice of the people,” he said.

Musk’s sweeping changes in Twitter and laying off thousands of employees isn’t sitting well with people. Several users and celebrities have called him out, including composer Trent Reznor.

In a recent interview, the Oscar winner talked about leaving Twitter where he enjoys 1.6 million followers. “I’m about to depart. We don’t need the arrogance of the billionaire class to feel like they can just come in and solve everything.”

He continued, “Even without him involved, I just find that it has become such a toxic environment. For my mental health, I need to tune out. I don’t feel good being there anymore.” Trent also called the entire fiasco an “embarrassment.”

Celebs like Alex Winter, David Dastmalchian, Laura Benanti, Gigi Hadid, and Whoopi Goldberg have left Twitter ever since Musk took over.
