David Harbour AKA Sheriff Jim Hopper of ‘Stranger Things’ is a well-known name in the entertainment industry. His career witnessed many highs ever since he joined the series in 2016, but there were many lows in his acting journey as well.
Recently, the actor spoke about one of the lowest points of his career. In such a vulnerable moment, he revealed that he turned to Ryan Reynolds for advice. What was the matter which made Harbour call Reynolds? We’ll tell you all about it.
What Happened To David Harbour?
In a recent interview with GQ, David Harbour spoke about his bad choices. One such choice was starring in the flop movie ‘Hellboy’ in 2019. He spoke about how agitated and heartbroken he was about his failure at the time and ended up calling Ryan Reynolds who has been in the same shoes many times previously.
Harbour said, “It was a very difficult experience because I wanted a lot out of it. I really like [Mike Mignola, Hellboy creator], I like that character… And then immediately when it began, even when it was announced, I realized that people did not want that character reinvented. I was very naïve and optimistic about what we were going to do.”
Harbour called Reynolds, saying “I know him a little bit. I called him and I was like, Hey man, I just need to know something. You know ‘Green Lantern’? Huge flop for you. What the f*** is that like, because I think I’m going to hit that right now. Am I gonna be okay? Am I gonna survive this?” According to Harbour, Reynolds was “sweet” and calmed him down in such a dire situation.
Ryan Reynolds Is Not New To Failures
Ryan Reynolds is not a stranger to failures. In his long acting career, his movies like ‘Green Lantern’, ‘R.I.P.D.’, and ‘Criminal‘ completely bombed at the box office. After the string of flop films, many assumed that Reynolds’ career was over, especially after his take on ‘Green Lantern‘. But the failures were not enough to stop the star. He made a huge comeback at the global and domestic box office with his role as Deadpool, which the fans absolutely loved.
Later Reynolds spoke about both ‘Deadpool‘ and ‘Green Lantern‘ in an interview. He said “Well it’s simple: Deadpool always knew what it was. With Green Lantern, I don’t think anyone ever figured out exactly what it was.” He even blamed Hollywood saying, “(‘Green Lantern’) also fell victim to the process in Hollywood which is like poster first, release date second, script last. At the time, it was a huge opportunity for me so I was excited to try and take part in it.”
