Will Elon Musk Make Policy Change Polls Exclusive For The ‘Twitter Blue’ Users?

There is now successive degradation of the environment on Twitter since Elon Musk bought the platform. He has been contradicting his own decisions and promises. Twitter may not become the “bedrock of democracy”. After demanding the dissolution of the hierarchy on the app, the new CEO is fanning it. Limiting free speech is one of the radical steps among many others he took since he acquired Twitter.

One of the examples of his absolutist agenda is he fired more than half of his employees due to losses, but a handful of them were sacked because they criticized Elon’s decision openly on Twitter. They were veteran engineers who had been working at the company for the longest time. Recently, he conducted a poll to ask people whether he should step down as the CEO of the company, where the majority agreed that he should do so. After the poll, he decided that the policy change polls will be restricted to the ‘Twitter Blue’ users only.

Elon Musk Will Make The Policy Change Polls Exclusive For ‘Twitter Blue’ Users

On December 12th, 2022, Twitter relaunched the ‘Twitter Blue’ with newly added features. When Elon Musk first introduced the subscription to boost the revenue, it proved to be a debacle after many impersonators of real celebrities emerged. Now, there will be different colored check marks for government officials, businesses, and others for $11/ month for iOS users and $8/month for other users. They could edit their tweets, upload long-form 1080p videos, and the users will be eligible for the coveted “blue check mark”.

However, now the users will enjoy another exclusive feature. On December 18th, Elon Musk and Twitter announced that the platform will disable accounts which “primarily” promote other platforms’ content. They came to this decision after the users reprimanded the new CEO for stringent restrictions. After the policy change, he announced that any other policy change will happen only after public polls. Earlier, he reinstated the former President of the USA, Donald Trump’s Twitter account through public poll. But, now he will make the polls limited to ‘Twitter Blue’ subscribers.

On the same day, he ran a poll, where he asked people if he should resign from the post of CEO, and majority of the people agreed to the decision. Then, a user claimed that the state-run bots infiltrated the poll and hijacked it leading to the majority votes. He also said that the poll was an experiment to “catch all the deep state bots”. Another user suggested in the same thread that “Blue subscribers should be the only ones that can vote in policy related polls. We actually have the skin in the game”. To this, the CEO replied, “Good point. Twitter will make that change”.

The origin of this whole new potential change is due to the restrictions on linking the content from other social media platforms on December 18th, 2022. Twitter’s support account also updated their policy that it will suspend any account that links other platforms like Facebook, Instagram, Mastodon, Truth Social, and other platforms’ links.

However, the users did not agree with the decision, and asking him to only restrict the accounts of users, who *solely* wants to promote the above social media platforms. Elon Musk immediately adhered to the suggestions and said, “Policy will be adjusted to suspending accounts only when that account’s *primary* purpose is promotion of competitors, which essentially falls under the no spam rule”. But, Twitter will make an exception for the paid content/advertisement from these platforms on the microblogging site.
