“One Violent Day To End Crime”: Donald Trump’s Wild Remarks Spark ‘The Purge’ Comparisons

The election season has been seeing some wild twists, especially since Joe Biden stepped down as the Presidential candidate and Kamala Harris replaced him as Donald Trump‘s opponent. In another wild twist, Trump has seemingly made a bizarre suggestion in his latest election rally, that also has to do with Hollywood.

The Purge‘, the dystopian horror franchise, has found comparisons within Trump’s speech in Erie, Pennsylvania. At the rally, 78-year-old Trump suggested a “Purge-like” solution to the lawlessness problem in America, stirring the pot yet again. Here’s what he said and how his potential voters are reacting to it.

Donald Trump has made a bold proposal ahead of the elections, suggesting that the government should give the police “one really violent day” to crack down on theft and crime. The former president took the opportunity to blast Vice President Kamala Harris and ABC’s David Muir for their views on crime.

Crime is at a level like we’ve never seen, it’s rampant. It’s rising,” he said, further pinning the blame on the ruling party, his opponents, for their approach to crime in America. It got uglier when he started floating the idea of letting police have “one real rough, nasty day” to deal with criminals, specifically mentioning migrants.

The liberal left wants to destroy [the police] and they want to destroy our country. You know, if you had one day, one real rough, nasty day with the drugstores, as an example,” he said. Trying to get the crowd involved, he asked them what they think would happen “if you had one really violent day.”

He even suggested that someone like Republican Congressman Mike Kelly could take the reins for this imaginary purge, further reiterating that it would be “one rough hour, and I mean real rough,” speculating that such a measure “would end immediately” all crime.

Unsurprisingly, the internet erupted with comparisons to ‘The Purge‘ franchise — a horror series in which the U.S. government authorizes one day a year in which any crime, including murder, is committed in the name of societal catharsis.

Donald Trump suggests a Hollywood-style Purge, allowing just one day or one hour of ‘really rough’ stuff to get rid of the drug dealers,” one person wrote on X (formerly Twitter).

Another chimed in with, “Left for a few hours, come back to Donald Trump literally promoting the purge. You cannot make this s— up.”

While the ‘Purge‘ film series has grossed more than $534 million worldwide and will have its sixth installment coming out, most of us did not actually expect this comparison. Neither Trump’s team nor ‘The Purge‘ creator James DeMonaco, nor producers Jason Blum or Brad Fuller have responded to the statement as of yet.
