Snapchat is an American social media and messaging app for mobile phones. It was developed by Snap Inc., also known as Snapchat Inc. It was created by Evan Spiegel, Reggie Brown, and Bobby Murphy. One of the main marquee features of the app was sending a message or a picture that could only be viewed for a brief duration before it would disappear.
To compete with other social media apps, Snapchat has been rolling out new features. Some of these are ‘Stories’ which are posts that remain on the app for 24 hours, and ‘Discover’ where one can find new content according to their likes. Similarly, many new features have been recently developed to compete with similar apps like Instagram and TikTok. One such feature is the Snapchat Planets and the Friends Solar System. How does it work and what does it do? Let us find out.
Snapchat Planets And How They Work
Snapchat Planets is an exclusive feature available to Snapchat Plus subscribers. It is just another way of determining your Snapchat best friend just like the ‘Streaks’ feature. The Snapchat Planets feature organizes your top eight friends according to the solar system and displays them in a similar manner.
If you are a Snapchat Plus user, your top eight friends will be designated a planet from the solar system depending on how close or distant you are. The friend who is designated with Mercury is your closest friend. Whereas the friend dubbed as Neptune is your distant friend out of your top eight. The friends with whom you chat and snap the most will be displayed in the Snapchat Planets. Therefore each user will have their own solar system.
If a user wants to see the feature, they must visit any of their top eight friends’ profiles and click on the Best Friends or Friends tab. Once you click on the tab, the app will show a picture of you as the Sun and your friend as one of the eight planets. Depending on how close you two are, Snapchat will assign a planet to your friend.
If you are able to see a ‘Best Friend’ badge on your friend’s profile, it means that you two appear in each other’s solar system. But if you only see a ‘Friends’ badge on your friend’s profile, it means that you are one of the planets in their solar system but they are not a planet in your solar system.
