Twitter may be nearing doomsday, but Elon Musk has been rigorously anchoring it in the storm with radical policies and decisions. Since he took over the platform, Twitter has been in flux. There was a positive uproar when the billionaire decided to buy the company and make the platform into a “digital town square of democracy”. However, since the acquisition, Musk’s treatment of Twitter has been an act of sinking the ship. One of the most criticized and chaotic decisions was the mass layoffs.
When the Tesla owner completed the $44 billion deal after a turbulent legal fraught. However, he got again in trouble when the advertisers started pulling out from advertising on the platform. Twitter lost a major chunk of revenue from one of its main sources of revenue. So, the new CEO started the saga of layoffs in November 2022. He reasoned that there is a huge loss of income. From then on, he has been continuing to reduce the headcount at the company firing veteran engineers and people from other departments. In a recent development, he has fired one of the most valued employees, Esther Crawford, amongst other employees in a new round of layoffs.

During this revamping process, there have been certain loyalists, who have given their all to execute his vision. One of them is Esther Crawford, the Director of Product Management at Twitter.

The New CEO Also Fired An Engineer Over Low Twitter Engagement
Most of the time these layoffs were done to stabilize the dwindling finances. But, there are some instances when Elon Musk has fired people for very minuscule reasons. The CEO fired two engineers because they criticized Musk’s policies publicly on Twitter. They were veteran engineers. Now, he has fired an engineer during a meeting due to fewer impressions on his Twitter account.
The origin was that during the LVII Super Bowl, Elon tweeted in support of the Philadelphia Eagles. The tweet got 9.1 million impressions whereas Joe Biden’s tweet about supporting the Eagles garnered 29 million impressions. During the meeting, he said, “This is ridiculous. I have more than 100 million followers, and I’m only getting tens of thousands of impressions”. When the engineer explained the reason for the low popularity, the CEO fired the engineer.
