Stephen Colbert, the renowned host of ‘The Late Show, took a playful jab at the ongoing rumors swirling around Prince William’s alleged romantic involvement with Rose Hanbury. The rumors have surfaced as the Duchess of Cambridge, Kate Middleton, remains notably absent from the public eye.

With his trademark wit, Colbert addressed the speculation on his recent episode. “The kingdom has been all a flutter by the seeming disappearance of Kate Middleton. Well now, internet sleuths are guessing that Kate’s absence may be related to her husband and the future King of England William having an affair,” he said on Tuesday’s episode of his show.

Colbert then sarcastically added, “Oh no, my heart goes out to poor Kate. So, I think we all know who the alleged other woman is. Say it with me –– the Marchioness of Cholmondeley –– what a beautiful name!”

Colbert then mockingly referred to Hanbury as the “Marching Band of Chicanery,” poking fun at the scandalous allegations that have circulated since 2019.

He continued his commentary by mimicking Prince William’s response to the accusations, adopting a British accent and playfully quoting, “Ha ha, imagine me having an affair! It is to laugh. It reminds me of a jape –– knock, knock, who’s there? Oh it’s my illegitimate son. I’ve knocked up my mistress,” he said. Colbert also mentioned Hanbury’s husband’s David Rocksavage, likening it to something out of the Flintstones cartoon.

Colbert’s satirical commentary on the situation came in light of a story titled, “Rumors Surrounding Prince William’s Relationship With Rose Hanbury Are at an All-Time High Amid Kate Middleton’s Recovery.” Colbert cited the story that included tweets about Middleton’s absence and the alleged affair.

While Middleton’s representatives have clarified her absence as recovery from “planned abdominal surgery,” the ongoing rumors have sparked speculation among royal watchers. Despite denials from William’s lawyer and statements from sources close to the family, the rumors persist, with social media abuzz with concerns about her whereabouts.
