10. Gossip Girl (2007-2012)
The infamous reveal that Dan was ultimately the Gossip Girl is probably still one of the most divisive twists in TV history, and for good reason. Beyond all the glaring inconsistencies, the twist makes Dan’s entire storyline so creepy.
Even worse, Serena actually decided to marry him afterwards, framing all his stalking as a love letter to them all. 9. Roseanne (1988-2018)
The show was already testing viewers’ patience with that bizarre lottery storyline. But the finale delivered the ultimate punch. Roseanne’s closing monologue revealed the entire final season had actually been fiction.
It was supposed to be her way of coping with real-life trauma through writing a book. Apart from undercutting the show’s own plotlines, it felt like a cheap way to invalidate its own legacy and a big betrayal to longtime fans. Sure, the 2018 revival tried to fix it all, but it was too late for the damage to be undone.
8. Seinfeld (1989-1998)
For a sitcom that defined comedy for generations, the finale of ‘Seinfeld’ landed with a thud. The premise of putting the group on trial, with all the characters they’d wronged over the years coming back, sounded promising on paper.

Villanelle gets shot dead by a random sniper and as Eve lets out a scream of absolute anguish, the screen cuts to “The End”. it was too sudden, too bleak and not in the right way at all. The show taking the entire no-closure and bury-your-gays route felt like a betrayal to everything it stood for and everything the fans loved about the show.
6. House of Cards (2013-2018)
The final season of ‘House of Cards’ just didn’t have the strategic brilliance that once defined it. It was convoluted and sluggish. With Frank gone, the show had a real opportunity to put the spotlight on Claire. But the entire plot about clearing her name in her husband’s death just didn’t work.
The finale’s last image, where we see Claire stabbing Doug and the show abruptly ending there, just goes to show how much the show had reduced to just another messy thriller whose only strategy was to create forgettable, shock-driven plots.
5. True Blood (2008-2014)
Sticking with ‘True Blood’s later seasons was already a struggle, and after all that, we certainly didn’t deserve that sabotaged ending. Sookie’s love triangle with Eric and Bill was probably one of the last real things in the show anyone cared about. So having her stake Bill through the heart and then leaving her romantic future unresolved was not it.
The neat and cliché ending where humans and vampires are suddenly over all their hatred also ignored the show’s earlier and darker themes. There was very little to care about at the ending, and the finale botched the few threads we were holding on to by making sure that the characters were all shoved into trope-following relationships.

4. Lost (2004-2010)
Let’s be honest. The showrunners of ‘Lost’ had created such a dense and complex plot by the end that it was clear they weren’t keeping score, and they definitely didn’t have any idea how to tie up the loose ends.
But the ending we did get felt like it was only for the sake of trolling all the elaborate fan theories that were spiralling for years. The flash-sideways reveal felt like the cheapest cop-out, and it all left us incredibly frustrated and disappointed rather than an actual closure to a 121-episode-long show.
3. How I Met Your Mother (2005-2014)
It is remarkable how much we loved a character that wasn’t even introduced to us until the end more than the characters we followed for 9 whole seasons. The entire show was supposed to build towards Ted’s love story with the Mother, only to have her killed in the final scene.
Framing the entire series as a way for Ted to justify ending up with Robin, despite their famously toxic history, felt like a slap in the face. It undid years of character growth and is a painful reminder every time we even think of rewatching the show.
2. Dexter (2006-2013)
It is truly an achievement to undercut the entire show’s legacy and turn it into meme material with one plotline. In the infamous final shot of ‘Dexter’, our serial killer protagonist is reinvented as a stoic lumberjack. Let that sink in.
Dexter faces zero real consequences for all the things he did. And the cruellest blow came when Debra ends up dumped in the sea. The entire show’s emotional payoff scene was right in the palms of the writers if they had just decided to go with revealing Dexter’s true nature to everyone, and they still managed to mess it all up.
1. Game Of Thrones (2011-2019)
Wrapping up such a sprawling and years-in-the-making fantasy epic is no easy feat, and the show should get some slack. But even after accounting for all that, the finale of ‘Game of Thrones’ was unforgivable.
The entire final season was ridiculously paced, with so many plotlines being treated like a joke and all of its complex characters being reduced to caricatures. Worst of all, the Iron Throne went to the one character who’d earned it the least. “Who has a better story than Bran the Broken?” will go down in history as one of the most disappointing lines of all time.
