‘Boy Meets World‘ fans might finally get the reunion they have wanted for years! Matthew Lawrence has revealed his idea for a spinoff featuring Jack Hunter and Eric Matthews, and he is more than ready to reunite with Will Friedle.
Interestingly, the actor says the spinoff was actually supposed to happen years ago. So, what stopped it, and could the beloved duo still make a comeback?
Matthew Lawrence Has A Wild Idea For Jack And Eric’s Return

While promoting his nostalgic graphic novel, The Lawrence Brothers Detective Agency, Matthew Lawrence told Entertainment Weekly that a Jack and Eric spinoff had once been planned. “That was supposed to happen,” he revealed, adding, “That, I would do that in a second.”

Fans first met Jack in season five of Boy Meets World as Shawn Hunter’s estranged half-brother. However, his friendship with Cory Matthews’ older brother Eric soon became one of the show’s funniest parts during its final three seasons. Lawrence still considers Friedle one of his best comedy partners. “I always say outside of Andy and Joe, there’s only one guy that I’ve had that connection with in the business when it comes to situational comedy,” he explained. “And it’s Will Friedle.”
The ‘Mrs. Doubtfire‘ actor already has a storyline in mind. Jack and Eric would reunite after years apart, but neither would be doing particularly well in life. Jack and Eric “both went their own ways, and now the show is that they’ve been forced back together again… They’ve had to now lean on each other, no matter how much they don’t want to, to get through their early 40s,” he suggested. Both characters would need to “clearly have completely fallen on both their faces. I think that’s the only way to really start this thing.”
Joey Lawrence Thinks The ‘Boy Meets World’ Spinoff Could Be The Next Odd Couple

Matthew’s brother Joey Lawrence is equally excited about the idea. Both brothers agree that Jack and Eric should become roommates again. Joey revealed that they had already discussed the concept privately and on their Brotherly Love podcast, which they host with Andrew Lawrence.

“We’ve talked about it off-camera. We actually talked about it on our podcast,” Joey shared. “But to me, it would be The Odd Couple. … They’re thrust back together. They’ve completely changed how they live their lives. They’re at odds, but they somehow have to depend on each other and grow to find common ground. I mean, that’s it. It’s Jack Lemmon and Walter Matthau, right?”.
However, the original spinoff never made it to television. Matthew explained, “That was really supposed to happen. But that was the start of Disney and Michael Jacobs’ feud,” referring to the disagreement involving Disney and the show’s creator. ‘Boy Meets World‘ eventually ended in 2000, leaving Jack and Eric’s friendship without the continuation fans had hoped for.
