With HBO officially wrapping up the series ‘Euphoria’, one thing remains a mystery to fans: What happened to Elliot? Elliot, portrayed by Dominic Fike, was one of the most discussed hires for the second season of the show. He was a part of Rue and Jules’ relationship, and no matter how much they loved or hated him, he was there.

So, when ‘Euphoria’ season 3 came out, it came as a surprise to many that Elliot wasn’t there.

The disappearance was particularly baffling as there had been reports before the shooting that Fike would be returning for the final season, albeit in a limited capacity. However, after eight episodes and the finale, the character never made an appearance.

The absence of Elliot further added to the feeling of a change behind the scenes for a show already under fire for dropping several familiar faces. HBO has not made any official explanation for Elliot’s disappearance. However, reports indicate it could be rather straightforward.

Earlier updates indicated that Fike would only be making a few scenes, not as a prominent cast member. That led to speculation that those scenes were ultimately cut during post-production.

Sometimes, when a TV series is finished, they may cut out scenes if they don’t fit into the season. Storylines change in editing, episodes are shortened, and sometimes characters move around in the story.

However, if that was the case here, Elliot could have been one of the victims of a season that was already struggling with a cast that was overstuffed and several new storylines. Fans may never know exactly what those scenes were about. But Fike’s absence is even more noticeable given that he was reportedly involved in production.

The final season of the show was not without its share of missing faces, though. A few characters left the series before season 3, or their roles were cut down. This led many viewers to feel that the show’s focus had shifted from the relationships and emotional conflicts that it was originally about, and made it such a cultural phenomenon.

Ironically, Elliot’s absence could have meant that the character was not caught up in some of the season’s most controversial creative decisions. Whether he was a worthy addition to season 2 is still up for debate. But at least his story wasn’t rewritten beyond recognition.

With season 3 confirmed as the final episode of the series, it’s unlikely that we’ll ever get an answer to the question of why Elliot didn’t appear. That’s a sad ending to his tale, and one of the biggest unanswered questions left by ‘Euphoria’.
