The uncanny success of ‘Backrooms’ has not only introduced a new horror franchise, but it has also provided Kane Parsons with a chance to be more involved in the direction of the franchise.
‘Backrooms’ Sequel Could Look Different As Kane Parsons Expands His Role

New reports show that Parsons is already thinking about a sequel after the film’s big success at the box office. One thing, though, might be different between the next installment and its predecessor. This time, the filmmaker is said to be more involved with the screenplay itself and will have more of a say in the story.

For fans of Parsons, who have witnessed his career trajectory from YouTube star to one of Hollywood’s most promising young directors, it’s an interesting turn. Only a few years ago, ‘Backrooms’ was just a bunch of creepy videos on the internet that were based on the infamous creepypasta.
The project was created by Parsons himself as a teenager and immediately became popular because of its eerie atmosphere and found-footage style. That success eventually caught the eye of the big studios, and A24 picked up the rights to bring the concept to theaters.
The risk proved to be a great success. With Chiwetel Ejiofor and Renate Reinsve leading the way, the movie was a dramatic triumph in its opening weekend, one of A24’s biggest theatrical success stories. It was a remarkable accomplishment for Parsons, who became the youngest director to open a No. 1 film at the box office.
‘Backrooms’ Can Go Beyond The Movies

A sequel has yet to be officially approved, but with the momentum of the franchise, it appears that more projects are becoming more and more likely. Parsons has already revealed that the series isn’t coming to a close with one movie.

There has been talk of an expansion of the universe in other media, possibly television, and a feature sequel has been announced. The director’s admission that he would like to be more involved in the development of the sequel’s script indicates his passion.
It’s not clear whether he will eventually work with writers from the first movie or hire new writers. One thing’s for sure: ‘Backrooms’ has come a long way from its initial online beginnings. That’s good news for those who love horror.
The enigmatic yellow hallways that once inhabited YouTube are now one of the fastest-growing genre film franchises, and Parsons seems hell-bent on ensuring its next installment is even more ambitious than the first.
