Lauren Graham rarely questioned the ‘Gilmore Girls‘ scripts, but one storyline clearly did not win over the audience. Fans repeatedly told the actress how unhappy they were with it, and their biggest complaint came down to how long the story continued.

Fans Disliked Lorelai And Rory’s Long Fight in ‘Gilmore Girls’
While speaking to PEOPLE about her partnership with Bob’s Red Mill, Graham revealed that she rarely asked the writers to change Lorelai’s storylines. The Lorelai Gilmore actor explained that she never saw herself as the kind of actress who would demand script changes. “I don’t think I thought I would’ve had the influence, and I was always so amazed by the scripts,” she said.

However, Graham knew viewers didn’t love the long fallout between Lorelai and Rory. “There was that season when Rory and Lorelai were in a fight, and I would hear from people, ‘We don’t like that. It’s going on for so long.’ But when you do a long-running TV show, you have to have conflict,” she recalled. “It can’t all be walking around the gazebo. We got to have some drama.”
The mother-daughter fallout began at the end of Season 5 after Rory decided to leave Yale. She then moved into her grandparents’ home, leaving Lorelai hurt and disappointed. Their separation continued through the first half of Season 6, making it their longest fight on the show.
Lauren Graham Cannot Imagine Anyone Else As Rory
Fans had spent years watching Lorelai and Rory act more like best friends than mother and daughter. Watching them avoid each other for so many episodes was never going to be easy. Viewers were ready for the pair to grab some coffee, talk it out, and return to their usual fast-talking selves.

“To me, the mark of a wonderful actor is like you can’t imagine anybody else in the part, and I can’t imagine anybody else,” Graham shared. “I can’t imagine anybody else as my partner for all those years.”
Graham also understands why viewers still love returning to Stars Hollow. “I think it’s something people really love about the show, which is you’re entering this fun world where everybody knows each other, everyone is looking out for each other, and it’s a small community,” she added. “We all kind of love the nostalgia of that and crave that.”
Since ‘Gilmore Girls‘, Graham has starred in ‘Parenthood‘, ‘Reminders of Him‘, ‘Twinless‘, and several other projects. Still, Lorelai remains one of her most iconic characters, while Stars Hollow continues to hold top-tier comfort-show status.
