    ‘Ozark’ Season 4 Ending Explained

‘Ozark’ ended a year ago, and yet people can’t stop talking about it. Starring Jason Bateman, Laura Linney, and Julia Garner, ‘Ozark‘ is an American crime drama on Netflix. The fourth and final season marks a bitter end to the Byrde’s dysfunctional pseudo-family dynamics. Through all three seasons, the Byrdes endure murder, betrayal, and money laundering, and during the finale season just when you think they might get away with it, an insane plot twist changes the course of the event.

Part one of season four ended with the brutal death of Darlene and Wyatt. Grief-stricken Ruth ended up targetting the Byrdes looking for answers and later revealed by Jonah (Marty and Wedny’s son) that the FBI inside man/cartel boss Javi Elizonndro was behind those killings. Her urge for revenge follows through the second part of the season resulting in a series of surprising events in the series finale.

What Happens In The Finale Episode Of ‘Ozark’?

    Byrdes

Part two opens with an unstable Ruth hunting down Wyatt’s killer and shooting Javi. To get away from it the Byrdes cover up her crime by telling Omar Navarro that his nephew has disappeared and is presumed dead. Because of the Langmore-Snell nuptials Ruth has inherited Darlene’s estate as well as her shares in the Belle.

She buys the remaining shares off Charles Wilkes and gets her criminal record cleared, making her the proud majority owner of the Belle and the first clean Langmore in five generations. But sadly for her, things do not end well.

On the other hand, the Byrdes get their kids – Jonah and Charlotte back from Wedny’s drunk father. Although when everything seems to go well, Ozark just can’t handle it. At the foundation gala, Camila threatens Byrdes and Clare to reveal information about her son’s death. Although the Byrdes remain cool and kept their word, in a fit of terror Clare spills the beans that it was Ruth who was responsible.

The Byrdes were at crossroads between saving their children or their accomplice. Hence the Byrdes put on their brave face during the foundation event whilst Camila shot Ruth Langmore at the side of the road. Meanwhile, Camila also had her brother killed to inherit his share of the money and business.

Who Was The Target Of The Final Gunshot?

    Jonah

The final shot of the series has had the fans hanging by the thread and is left open for interpretation. When the Byrdes arrive back home after their successful event, they find Mel holding Ben’s ashes in the goat cookie jar.

He immediately figures that Ben is dead and not missing and the Byrdes have something to do with it. After haggling for money, Mel pulls the gun at Wendy and Marty to ensure they don’t get away with their bad deeds.

Just then Jonah enters with a shotgun and aims at Mel Sattem, just then the screen goes black leaving behind the sound of a gunshot. It is very much obvious that Jonah pulled the trigger on Mel to protect his parents, but sadly, he just got his hands dirty in his parent’s crime. As much as they crave a normal life, the Bydres can’t hide their true nature. Thus the bad guys win in an unfair and frustrating cruel manner.
