Suspension of disbelief has never felt so good! Amidst the unfortunate WGA strike, ‘The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel’ delivered a fantastic episode that dove into what caused the band to break up. Yes, after all of the allusions, the writers have finally delved into the details of what happened with the powder keg and the dynamite.
It’s good to see that Susie also succeeded later in life. With all of her faults, Susie has always been a force to be reckoned with, and her success was just a matter of time. The episode is an unusual tribute to Susie Meyers of the future, with the comedians exchanging war stories about Susie. A familiar face shows up towards the end.

‘The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel’ Season 5: Midge And Susie Don’t Talk Anymore
The show begins with Midge’s stand-up in full bloom (we never expect any less). She’s trying to work her break-up with a friend with an anesthetic shot of humor, but the pain never disappears. Cut to 1990, where a horde of smug men in expensive suits meets at a swanky venue. These are the members of ‘The Friars Club’ gathering to roast Susie Myerson.
And it’s through their jokes intercut with moments of unreliable narration that we learn about why Midge dropped Susie. Susie is now a living legend whom the movie business fears. But she’s no longer friends with Midge. It is revealed that Joel saw Nicky and Franky after learning Susie is paying them with Midge’s earnings.
We never learn what exactly happened, but during the evening prayer at the synagogue, Joel is arrested by the FBI. Midge gets a letter from Joel explaining Susie’s cut to the mob. Midge confronts Susie, who confesses everything. Upset with Susie’s lies and Joel’s imprisonment, Midge cuts off ties with her.

‘The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel’ Season 5: How Did Susie Myerson Become A Living Legend?
Susie Myerson continued using her mob ties to sweep unnecessary matters under the rug. In such a cut-throat business, she remained loyal to her mentor Harry. Although there are different versions of that story, most agree Susie and Harry had a relationship based on mutual trust. After acquiring Harry’s clientele, Susie pulls ‘The Triple Crown,’ which shaped her legend.
In a single day, she gets three incredible projects in production- the iconic movie ‘The French Connection,’ the sitcom ‘That’s Our Time,’ and the album recording of Andrew Lloyd Webber and Tim Rice’s ‘Jesus Christ Superstar.’ We know the comedians are exchanging stories around an ever-evolving myth. Still, there’s no doubt she pulled it off, including getting George Toledano fired from ‘The Gordon Ford Show.’
Moreover, we learn that Midge’s marriage to Philip Roth never happened. Although we can never question the humor of the man behind ‘The Portnoy’s Complaint,’ it’s not enough for Midge. Once again, Susie stands by the people she loves. Loyalty or at least some version of it. The roast ends with a message from Midge that catches Susie off guard. It’s simple and sweet, hinting at recollection.
