Orcs are a race of monsters in Middle-earth who are aggressive, ugly, and malevolent. They are in contrast with the nature of the elves. Just like humans, Orcs are also mortal creatures.

In Tolkien’s work, Orcs were the main soldiers of the Dark Lord’s armies and served as their servants. They were created by the first Morgoth, the first Dark Lord during the Years of the Lamps.

They served him and later his successor in their quest to dominate the entire Middle-earth. Before Oromë first found the Elves at Cuiviénen, Melkor kidnapped a few of them and brutally deformed them.

The elves were then changed into the first Orcs. This was the main reason for their opposite personality to Elves as they were forcefully converted into one.

Sauron was the dark lord during the second and third age in middle earth. He created his realm in the land of Mordor.

Orcs constituted the main army of Sauron during the War of the Elves and Sauron. Despite having more Orcs, the battle was won by the Elves due to their superior fighting techniques.

In the third age, Orcs remained the backbone of Sauron’s army of Mordor and of Isengard when he ruled them.

This was also the time when a new and stronger breed of Orc appeared, called Black Uruks. His eventual downfall in the Third Age led to the depletion of Orcs.
