There is some very bad news for fans of ‘The Idol‘ today. The highly controversial series has been canceled by HBO after just one season. The series was Abel “The Weeknd” Tesfaye’s directorial and acting debut on television.

Why Was ‘The Idol’ Canceled By HBO?
The Lily Rose-Depp-starrer did receive a very positive response from fans although it did not perform well with critics. The musical drama concluded on 2 July after just five episodes.
Thus many believed that the series would receive a second season. But today HBO cleared all confusion by officially cancelling the series. “‘The Idol’ was one of HBO’s most provocative original programs, and we’re pleased by the strong audience response,” said a spokesperson for HBO.
“After much thought and consideration, HBO, as well as the creators and producers have decided not to move forward with a second season. We’re grateful to the creators, cast, and crew for their incredible work,” the spokesperson continued.
