The drama surrounding Tom Hardy and ‘MobLand’ has taken another dramatic turn after reports claimed the actor will not return for the Paramount+ crime series beyond its upcoming second season. According to industry insider Matthew Belloni’s Puck newsletter, Hardy’s alleged exit follows months of behind-the-scenes friction during Season Two’s production.
Hardy plays Harry Da Souza, the fixer for the powerful Harrigan crime family in the London-set crime drama. The series quickly became one of Paramount+’s biggest streaming hits thanks to its gritty tone and star-studded ensemble cast. Alongside Hardy, the show features Helen Mirren, Pierce Brosnan, Paddy Considine, and Joanne Froggatt. But despite its success, new reports suggest growing creative disagreements created significant behind-the-scenes tension during production.
Reports Claim Creative Conflicts Escalated During ‘Mobland’ Season 2 Production

According to the reports, tension developed between Hardy and the creative leadership behind the series, including showrunners Jez Butterworth and David Glasser. Multiple sources allege the conflict stemmed from several behind-the-scenes issues.
Insiders claimed Hardy frequently arrived late to set, causing delays during the costly production schedule. The actor was also said to have pushed for unscripted dialogue changes and regularly offered notes on scenes and story structure while serving as an executive producer on the series.

Another reported point of friction involved the direction of the story itself. While Season One largely centered on Hardy’s Harry Da Souza, Season Two is said to expand its focus to the broader ensemble cast. Industry insiders claim Hardy opposed shifting attention away from his character as the show evolved into a more ensemble-driven crime drama.
Producers Threatened to Leave If Hardy Remained in the Cast

The situation reportedly became so severe that Jez Butterworth considered leaving the project unless Hardy agreed not to continue beyond the next season. Apparently, Paramount executives ultimately sided with the showrunner after concerns emerged that key producers could walk away if the actor remained involved with ‘MobLand.’

Technically, Hardy was not formally fired from the series. Reports state that his contract included a “mutual option” clause for Season Three, meaning both the actor and the studio had to agree to continue the partnership. Paramount+ ultimately chose not to activate the option, effectively ending Hardy’s involvement with the show after the upcoming season.
Fans will still see Hardy return as Harry Da Souza one final time when ‘MobLand’ Season Two premieres later in 2026. Production wrapped earlier this spring, with the makers targeting a fall release window.
