Kit Harington, popular as Jon Snow from the iconic show ‘Game Of Thrones‘, revealed that the highly anticipated spinoff centered around his character is no longer in development at HBO. During a recent interview with ScreenRant for the promotion of his upcoming movie ‘Blood for Dust‘, the actor said that the project is completely “off the table“.
The idea of the spinoff first emerged in June 2022, and it was Harington himself who had brought the idea to HBO with his own team of writers and showrunners. Author George R.R. Martin, whose books the show is based on, also confirmed the news. However, the project has since been shelved, as was recently updated by Harington.
According to Harington, the decision to halt the production was because of the lack of the right story that would resonate with everyone involved. “We couldn’t find the right story to tell that we were all excited about enough,” he explained. “So, we decided to lay down tools with it for the time being.”
The proposed spinoff was expected to explore Jon Snow’s life and ventures after the final events of ‘Game of Thrones’. It would have particularly focused on his journey with the Wildlings after his exile from Westeros.

‘Game Of Thrones’ Fans Have A Ray Of Hope Despite Cancellation Of Jon Snow Spin-off
Liam Cunningham, who played Sir Davos Seaworth in the original series, also expressed his eagerness to reprise his role in the spinoff. He also said that he reached out to Harington with the tongue-in-cheek message, ‘Better Call Davos’.
Speaking during an interview with the Den of Geek last year, Cunningham said, “I did send [Kit] a text saying, ‘Better Call Davos. I haven’t heard anything back. You probably know more than I do. I wish them the best to whoever’s involved in it, and if the check is big enough, I might even show up again!”
Though it is now confirmed that the Jon Snow spinoff is cancelled, ‘Game of Thrones‘ fans can still look forward to other projects set in the expansive universe. ‘House of the Dragon‘, the prequel series focusing on the Targaryen dynasty, is gearing up for its highly anticipated second season.
Moreover, another show based on Martin’s ‘Tales of Dunk and Egg‘ books is also under production. Titled ‘A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms: The Hedge Knight’, the show is being developed with Peter Claffey and Dexter Sol Ansell in the lead roles of Ser Duncan the Tall and his squire, Egg, respectively.
