‘Demon Slayer’ is known for having some of the best characters and animation in the anime world. One character who is famous among the fans is Kibutsuji Muzan who happens to be the primary antagonist of the series. Muzan has been searching for a demon who could withstand the sunlight for over 500 years. His search came to an end when he found out that Nezuko was able to withstand the sun.
Whilst it is a great plot point, the fans are confused as to how a demon, whose main weakness is the sun, can survive in it. Here is why Kamado Nezuko was able to withstand the sun despite being a demon.
Who Is Kamado Nezuko?
Kamado Nezuko is the primary character in ‘Demon Slayer’. She is Tanjiro’s younger sister and the only surviving sibling or family member of his. Kibutsuji Muzan attacked her home one day when Tanjiro was out in the woods. Muzan killed the rest of the family members, but he turned Nezuko into a demon. However, unlike other demons, Nezuko was able to remain sentient and didn’t consume human flesh at all.
Despite not consuming the one thing that sustains all the demons, she is still extremely powerful. Her blood demon art is very strong and she can easily regenerate her limbs. While that is true for most demons, her regenerative abilities are in a league of their own. She was also able to remove Gyutaro’s poison from the sound Hashira, Tengen Uzui, and Inosuke. Further along the manga, Nezuko became increasingly powerful. She also became the only demon to be able to withstand sunlight.
How Was She Able To Withstand The Sunlight?
Kamado Nezuko had always been a strong and unique demon. She was different right from the start. As mentioned above, she was sentient and retained most of her humanity. Nezuko was able to conquer the sun while she was fighting the upper moon Hantengu. During the fight, the sun rose and it was thought that Nezuko would die, but she ultimately survived the sun.
Whilst an official explanation or reasoning was never provided by the mangaka, fans have theories. Kamado Nezuko, like Tanjiro, belonged to a long line of sun-breathing users. She had also seen her father perform the breathing style as a prayer dance. Her lineage may have something to do with her conquering the sun.
Another reason why fans think that she was able to overcome her weakness is because she wasn’t like the other demons. Nezuko had never consumed human flesh and didn’t harm humans. She also had most of her humanity and her intelligence. Her not fully embracing her demonic side could be a reason for her being able to stay in the sun. These are the potential reasons why Kamado Nezuko was able to overcome her weakness of the sun.
