Kibutsuji Muzan is the demon king and the strongest demon in existence. In addition to being the strongest demon, he is also the first of his kind. Ironically, he wasn’t turned into a demon on purpose, but it was rather an accident. Ever since he was born as a human, Muzan used to be sick. Many doctors tried to cure him until one doctor finally did. However, the medicine he used on Muzan turned him into a demon.

He found out that he was stronger, but his weaknesses also became apparent to him. Muzan realized that he could no longer walk in the sun. Because of this, he created many demons to try and find a way to walk in the sunlight. Muzan’s goal is to find a way to walk in the day that will make him truly immortal.

Personality-wise, Muzan is a very cautious and suspicious individual. Every decision he takes is calculated and he rarely takes decisions based on his emotions.

Rui, the lower moon 5 was killed by Tanjiro, Tomioka, and the rest. After Rui’s death, Muzan summoned the lower moons. He was angry with the lower moons and their incapability. He was upset that despite the fact the demon slayers were mere humans, they managed to defeat many of the lower moons.

After Rui’s defeat, he reached his limit and decided that the twelve kizuki will no longer have the lower moons and will only have the upper moons. He said that the upper moons haven’t been defeated in over a hundred years, but the lower moons constantly change. He killed all the lower moons except for one in his rage.

Another reason for killing the lower moons in addition to their incapability is Muzan’s paranoia. The Kizuki has the highest percentage of Muzan’s blood. Tamayo, Shinobu, and the others can use these demons to get access to his blood and can make poison or can analyze him. Muzan is a very cautious individual and he killed the lower moons to avoid this from happening.
