Emmy-winning actor Andre Braugher, popular for his roles in ‘Brooklyn Nine-Nine‘ and ‘Homicide: Life on the Street‘, died on Monday at the age of 61. His long-time publicist Jennifer Allen confirmed the news stating “a brief illness” as the cause of his death.
Braugher had a diverse career with a flair for drama and comedy genres. His breakout role came with ‘Homicide: Life on the Street‘, a 1990s crime show that revolved around the troubles of a cop’s life in Baltimore. His role on the show was highly recognized and also earned him an Emmy Award in 1998.

Andre Braugher Was A Celebrated, Versatile Actor
More recent of his noticeable works included the comedy show ‘Brooklyn Nine-Nine‘, wherein he played a comically stern precinct character of commander Captain Ray Holt. He grew fairly popular for the role which also earned him four Emmy nominations and two Critics Choice Awards.
Other than his career on television, Braugher also left his mark in the film industry with movies like ‘Glory‘ released in 1989, ‘Get on the Bus‘ released in 1996, and ‘City of Angels‘ released in 1998. He was committed to taking up meaningful roles throughout his career as he once stated, “I’d rather not work than do a part I’m ashamed of.”
Braugher was also into theatres and drama, as he performed Shakespearean roles. He was also in the New York Times-based drama ‘She Said‘ released in 2022, which featured the sexual abuse allegations against Harvey Weinstein.

Braugher Was An Academic Genius, Went To Stanford
Braugher was born on July 1, 1962, in Chicago. He grew up in the city’s West Side. Though he was raised in a rather challenging environment, he was an excellent student academically. He started his education at the St. Ignatius College Prep.
After getting a scholarship from there, he was admitted to Stanford University. Soon enough, he realized his passion for acting and decided to pursue a Master of Fine Arts from the Juilliard School.
Andre Braugher is survived by his wife, actress Ami Brabson, and his sons Michael, Isaiah, and John Wesley. His family also includes his brother, Charles Jennings, and his mother.
As the actor departed with an impact on television and film, several of his co-workers have grieved the loss. The actors including Terry Crews, David Simon, Chelsea Peretti, Joel McKinnon Miller, Dirk Blocker, Reed Diamond, Mike Royce, and Josh Lucas, took to social media to offer condolences and pay him a tribute.
