Actress Anya Taylor-Joy laid out a pleasant surprise for her fans by revealing that she secretly tied the knot with musician Malcolm McRae two years ago. The duo reportedly got married in a Southern gothic-inspired New Orleans wedding on April 1, 2022.
Confirming the ceremony on Instagram, Taylor-Joy shared glimpses of the event, including photos of “anatomically correct heart cakes.” In her caption, she also mentioned the significance of their wedding date, stating, “Two years ago, on April Fools, I secretly married my best friend in New Orleans.”
“The magic of that day is ingrained in every cell of my being, forever. Happy second (first) anniversary my love…you’re the coolest,” she mentioned in the caption of her post.
In the Instagram post, the actress also included photos of some heart-shaped cakes, with Taylor-Joy humorously declaring, “Yes, I am the vampire Lestat,” with reference to Anne Rice’s Interview with the Vampire, which also unfolds in New Orleans.

Anya Taylor-Joy And Malcolm McRae Got Married Just A Year After Their First Meeting
Anya Taylor-Joy and Malcolm McRae’s love story reportedly began when they crossed paths at the premiere of ‘The Queen’s Gambit’ in March 2021. Known for his role in ‘Daisy Jones and the Six’, McRae serenaded Taylor-Joy with a song he had penned just two days after their initial meeting.
The couple shortly started dating soon afterward and went public with their relationship a year later. While the marriage was under wraps until now, it can now be concluded that they got married soon, just a year after their first meeting.
Though there were earlier reports suggesting that the couple had an “intimate courthouse wedding” in July 2022 and a “starry” Venice ceremony in October 2023, Taylor-Joy’s April Fool’s revelation has set the record straight. It seems the couple successfully planned a playful April Fool’s surprise that caught many off guard.
