Brie Larson Says She Was “Scared” To Join The MCU

Brie Larson has been active in the entertainment industry for a while. She has received praise for her performance in films like ‘Short Term 12′, ‘The Spectacular Now’ and won an Oscar for Best Actress for her performance as a kidnapping victim in the 2015 drama ‘Room.’

She made her foray into the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) by playing the titular superhero in ‘Captain Marvel.’ In a recent interview, the 33-year-old actress said that she was scared to join the MCU initially. So let’s find out in detail what Larson said about Marvel.

Brie Larson has played several critically acclaimed roles in her career. She was also the first female superhero in a Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) film, which was ‘Captain Marvel.’

In an interview with Harper’s Bazaar, the 33-year-old Oscar-winning actress said that she was scared of joining the MCU. “I was scared of what would happen to me“, she revealed. “I was like, ‘What world is this, where these are the choices I have to make as an artist?‘”

Thankfully, Larson accepted the offer and learned to distance herself from the noise surrounding a massive franchise. “Anytime I feel like I’m being put too much on a pedestal, it’s my job to figure out how to remove that within myself,” she said.

At last year’s D23 Expo, the ‘Kong: Skull Island‘ actress was asked how long will she play the role of Captain Marvel. In a sarcastic manner, Larson responded: I don’t know. Does anyone want me to do it again?”

She further said, “I really don’t know. I don’t know the answer to that.” Her answer was in reference to the response her film got. Even though it was a major critical and commercial success, her performance apparently upset some Marvel fans who didn’t want a woman headlining a film.

Larson has also appeared in ‘Avengers: Endgame’ and in the series ‘Ms. Marvel‘ as the character. She will be returning in the upcoming sequel, ‘The Marvels’. It will release on July 28, 2023, as part of Phase Five of the MCU.
