Cameron Diaz is one of the biggest names in Hollywood. But before she made it big, she went through a rough patch. In a recent interview, she opened up about her struggle days and how she ended up being used as a mule probably for a drug in a foreign land.
Diaz said that she was trying hard to find work as a model in Paris and on an unexpected trip to Morocco, before ‘The Mask‘, her 1994 breakout film with Jim Carrey.

Was Diaz Really Used As a Mule?
Diaz, who is coming out of retirement for Netflix ‘Back in Action‘, opened up on the Second Life podcast about her initial struggling days.
The Shrek actress moved to Paris after finding moderate success as a catalog model in the US. She was then offered a modeling opportunity in Morocco and being a young, naive, and desperate person, she jumped right into it.
Diaz recalled, “This was the early ’90s and they gave me a locked suitcase that had my ‘costumes’ in it.” She is not fully sure, Diaz said in the podcast, “I think I was a mule carrying drugs to Morocco, I swear to God.”
After her suspicion grew, she told the custom officers at the border “I don’t know, it’s not mine, I’ve no idea whose it is.” Due to loose security arrangements those days, Diaz was allowed to leave without that suitcase to France.
This was her last gig after which she landed the lead role in the 1994 comedy film ‘The Mask’ which changed her career forever.
Diaz Breaks Her Long Hiatus With ‘Back In Action’
After ruling over the hearts of millions of fans for two decades, Diaz took a long break from acting. Her last appearance was in ‘The Other Woman‘, ‘Sex Tape‘ and ‘Annie‘, all of which were released in 2014.
Diaz will be returning for the Netflix film ‘Back In Action‘ with Jamie Foxx; she credits Foxx and Tom Braddy for convincing her to end her retirement. The filming will begin later this year and no release date has been announced.
She has mentioned in several reports that she needed some time off from acting as she didn’t like how every aspect of her life was managed by other people. After taking a break from films, Diaz tied the knot in 2015 with musician Benji Madden and the couple has a daughter via surrogacy.
