How Educated Is Taylor Swift?
As mentioned, Taylor Swift was still in school when she started with her music journey. Schooling definitely became tedious with works like recording, writing songs, and shooting for music videos happening on the other side of her life.
Taylor did her high school from Hendersonville High School in Tennessee for two years. After her sophomore year, she transferred to Aaron Academy. The reason behind the transfer was that the latter school allowed Taylor to get homeschooled. Even after having much on her shoulders, Swift managed to graduate school with an excellent 4.0 GPA. Also, she graduated a year early, which meant she completed two years of her high school in one year.
She even talked about her high school experience, saying, “I never got to have the normal college experience, per se. I went to public high school until tenth grade and finished my education doing homeschool work on the floors of airport terminals. Then I went out on the road on a radio tour, which sounds incredibly glamorous but in reality it consisted of a rental car, motels, and my mom and I pretending to have loud mother-daughter fights with each other during boarding so no one would want the empty seat between us on Southwest.”
The urge to get a college degree and have the traditional college experience always remained at the back of the singer’s mind. She finally got to tick off this dream when she received an honorary doctorate degree and even called herself Dr. Taylor Swift.
Where Did Taylor Swift Get Her Doctorate Degree?
It was only a few years back in 2016 that Taylor joked with Vogue that she wants to have an honorary doctorate because Ed Sheeran has one. New York University made the dream of hers possible, as they honored Taylor with an honorary doctorate in the Fine Arts with the graduating class of 2022 on May 18. The singer’s commencement speech for the ceremony was very inspiring, and Taylor’s fans expressed unbounded love for her. She even joked during the ceremony speech, saying, “I’m 90% sure that the reason I’m here is because I have a song called ‘22′”.
Taylor’s excitement for the graduation ceremony was visible as she posted an Instagram reel a few hours before the ceremony. The caption of the reel said, “Wearing a cap and gown for the very first time – see you soon NYU.” It was obvious that it was the first time that the ‘Shake It Off‘ singer was donning a cap and gown.
How Many Degrees Does Taylor Swift Have?
The honorary doctorate that Taylor Swift received is a special kind of degree that one gets. It is for people who didn’t go to school or don’t have a similar level of education to receive that degree. So yes, this means that Taylor never attended or studied at NYU. The honorary doctorate is one way an institution honors the accomplishments and contributions of an individual in a specific field, just like NYU honored Taylor’s unparalleled achievements and endowments to the arts, the reason why she got a ‘Doctorate of Fine Arts.’ This also means that Taylor only has this as one and only degree of hers.
