Fans Of Taylor Swift Are Bidding On NYU Grad Tickets For Hundreds Of Dollars

Multi-genre discography of Taylor Swift has earned her broad media attention and critical acclaim. Her narrative composition is often influenced by her personal experiences. She has received critical acclaim. One of the all-time best-selling artists has filled people’s hearts with her music.

Recently, her aficionados are pleading with the class of 2022 at New York University to get tickets to their impending graduation, where the “22” singer will deliver a commencement address. Here is everything you should know.

Swifties have been bombarding NYU students’ social media accounts.  Offers of up to $500 to attend the Grammy-winning artist’s honorary degree ceremony at Yankee Stadium on May 18.

“I’ve gotten long messages like ‘I hope this isn’t crazy. Sean Nesmith, a student, told The Washington Post, “I would love to come.”

The senior who once said he’s received bids as high as $500  described the fan base as both “invasive and something wacky to laugh about amongst other NYU students.

“Some messages are to the point, like ‘Are you giving your tickets away?’” he explained. “A girl said she would be my ‘biggest fan’ with a megaphone and cheering me on during the ceremony if I gave her a ticket.”

Users on Reddit have also inquired whether any NYU seniors are looking to sell their tickets, however, some of the threads have already been removed.

However, They Still Violate The School’s Ticketing Policy!

Some students are concerned that the school’s ticketing policy, which prohibits graduates from auctioning off their tickets, would lead to disciplinary action. Students who disregard the rules risk having their degrees and certificates delayed.

“I didn’t want to risk losing tickets or facing repercussions from the university if they were to find out,” Nesmith told. “It’s not worth it.”

But, “How iconic would it be if Taylor sang ’22’?” he joked.

While the singer of “You Need to Calm Down” is only talking to the class of ’22, students who graduated in ’20 and ’21 — their ceremonies are also next month — have also received offers.

Even though his ceremony does not involve Swift, William Ferrante, a 2021 alum of the NYU College of Dentistry, received an opportunity to acquire a ticket.

Ferrante told The Washington Post that a fan approached him after he playfully tweeted. “Selling my belated 2021 NYU commencement tickets who wants to see taylor swift!?

“The topic of actually how much they’d be worth wasn’t brought up during the conversation,” he stated. “But if I was able to get tickets to her ceremony I don’t think I’d really charge an exorbitant amount.”

Swift Fans Began Harassing Students For Tickets

According to The Click, which originally reported on the phenomena. Senior Caitlin Hornick had a fan reach out to her for a ticket in recent days.

“It’s not like a Taylor Swift concert.” “It’s a graduation ceremony,” she said to the blog.

“So the fact that people are willing to pay absurd prices just to get into Yankee Stadium to get a glimpse of Taylor Swift to get this honorary doctorate is just absurd to me. I wanna celebrate my peers in my program who went to grad school during a pandemic they deserve a ceremony,” she continued. “Not a ceremony that has bells and whistles because someone has a song called 22.”

A week after Swift fans began harassing students for tickets to watch the folk singer on stage in the Bronx, the school’s graduation website changed its policy on the restriction of ticket sales.

“NYU strictly prohibits the direct or indirect sale or auction of All-University Commencement tickets,”  reads the site. “Tickets are free and available only to eligible candidates in the Classes of 2020, 2021, and 2022 and their guests.”

NYU offered a course on Swift’s work this past semester. Swift’s career, songwriting, musical inspirations, and feminism were all discussed in the seminar. NYU’s Clive Davis Institute of Recorded Music is presenting Swift with the degree.

Swift’s representatives have yet to respond to a request for comment.
