In yet another display of her outspoken spirit, the actress took jibes at former US vice president Mike Pence.
Jennifer Lawrence was speaking at the 35th annual GLAAD Media Awards in New York when she took the chance to roast Pence for his alleged support of conversion therapy. Pence has been criticized for his stance on LGBT+ rights and his past comments supporting conversion therapy. Here’s what Lawrence said to roast Pence.
Jennifer Lawrence Slams Mike Pence For Favoring Conversion Therapy For Homosexual People
Jennifer Lawrence was at the GLAAD media Awards in New York when she took the stage to honor singer Orville Peck with the Vito Russo Award. The actress, however, diverted her audience’s attention somewhere else as she began her monologue with a light-hearted joke about the diversity of the attendees.
She then shifted to a more serious tone, asserting her love and support for the gay community. “I love seeing so many humans who can top their field while still being power bottoms,” the 33-year-old actress said.
“In fact, I was in love with a homosexual, it was my first love. I tried to convert him for years but now I know conversion therapy doesn’t work. Did you hear me Mike Pence? I said conversion therapy isn’t real even though I know you think it worked on you,” the ‘Hunger Games‘ star jokingly added.

Mike Pence Has Been Actively Advocating For Conversion Therapy Since Over Two Decades
Conversion therapy is a widely discredited and harmful practice that aims to change a person’s sexual orientation or gender identity. Several medical and mental health experts have condemned the practice, declaring it to be harmful.
However, during his tenure as the vice President, Mike Pence has consistently advocated for the therapy to be funded by the government. In a speech during his 2000 congressional campaign, he spoke very firmly of redirecting resources “toward those institutions which provide assistance to those seeking to change their sexual behaviour”.
Pence received heavy backlash from the LGBTQIA+ community as well as its supporters, however, the leader has not backed down.
Bringing the issue into focus during the event, Jennifer Lawrence stoop up to the Republican leader and his homophobic stance. Supporting her statements, Orville Peck also reflected on the resilience and creativity of the queer community in his acceptance speech.
