Dolly Parton Says She Will “Gracefully Accept” If Inducted At The Rock & Roll Hall Of Fame

When one hears Dolly Parton, the adjective ‘magnanimous’ oozes out of the singer’s personality. The 10 times Grammy-winner artist is considered a ‘national treasure.’ Dolly is nominated for being one of the inductees at the Rock & Roll Hall Of Fame alongside Lionel Richie, Eminem, and others. In March, Dolly wanted her name off the ballot for the Rock & Roll Hall Of Fame induction. But, the country-music artist has changed her mind and the reason is as adorable as she is!

Last month, in March, Dolly Parton bowed out from the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame nominations. She is nominated along with 17 other artists. The inductees are selected by a 1,000 members committee and the deserved artists are selected via a “Fan Vote.” According to the Rock & Roll Hall Of Fame, “Artists have to have released their first record 25 years earlier and have created music whose originality, impact and influence have changed the course of rock & roll.” Dolly Parton declared, “I don’t feel that I have earned that right.”

The committee rejected the request of dropping the artist’s name from the list of inductees. In their statement, they said, “From its inception, Rock and Roll have had deep roots in Rhythm & Blues and Country music. It is not defined by any one genre, but rather as a sound that moves youth culture. Dolly Parton’s music impacted a generation of young fans and influenced countless artists that followed. Her nomination to be considered for induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame followed the same process as all other artists who have been considered.”

Dolly Parton is not tired of continuing her priceless contribution to the entertainment world. Recently, she co-wrote a book with James Patterson titled Run Rose Run, a thriller novel about a country singer. Parton, while appearing on NPR, said, “Ruthanna[ the protagonist] is very much my personality this day and time.” Reese Witherspoon from Hello Sunshine will adapt the novel into a movie. Parton continued, “And I’m hoping to get to play her in a movie that we are going to make from the book … I don’t think I have to do too much acting on that one.”

In the same interview, the interviewer asked her what she will do if she is inducted. Dolly Parton answered, “Well, I’ll accept gracefully. I would just say thanks and I’ll accept it because the fans vote.” She continued, “But when I said that, it was always my belief that the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame was for the people in rock music, and I have found out lately that it’s not necessarily that. But if they can’t go there to be recognized, where do they go? So I just felt like I would be taking away from someone that maybe deserved it, certainly more than me, because I never considered myself a rock artist. But obviously, there’s more to it than that.”
