Sofia Vergara and Joe Manganiello‘s divorce drama made headlines for a long time when it happened. While their fans were left shocked with the announcement, the duo did not initially reveal any reasons for the split.
Days later, Vergara claimed that it was because of their differences over having children that the two decided to part ways. Fast forward a few more weeks, Joe denied Vergara’s claims, further stirring controversy. Vergara has now responded to Joe’s version of the story of their split.
Sofia Vergara Is In Disbelief Over Ex-Husband Joe Manganiello’s Comments
Sofia Vergara, the ‘Modern Family‘ star, hinted her ex-husband Joe Manganiello was lying about his reasons for their marriage ending in new comments to a profile with Variety.
“At the end of the day, you never even know if that’s what he said for real, ” Vergara said, shrugging. “I’ve read a lot of things that I’ve said that I’m like, ‘Huh? What am I gonna do, call him? I don’t know if he even said that.”
It gets even more interesting in context of Vergara’s past interview with Spanish newspaper El País back in January, where she seemed pretty clear regarding the reason for the breakup.
“My marriage broke up because my husband was younger,” Vergara explained candidly at the time. “He wanted to have kids, and I didn’t want to be an old mom.”
Vergara, who shares son Manolo, 32, with her first husband, Joe Gonzalez said she respects women who choose motherhood later in life but that wasn’t the path for her. “I had a son at 19 … I’m ready to be a grandmother, not a mother,” she said matter of factly.

Joe Manganiello Had A Different Version Of Their Split’s Story
Joe Manganiello, meanwhile, came up with a different story during an interview with Men’s Journal in July. He flat-out denied that kids were the reason for their split.
“We did try to have a family for the first year and a half,” Manganiello revealed, but the couple had a very real conversation about it early on in their relationship. He denied ever giving Sofia ultimatums regarding kids, saying, “That’s never who I was.”
The couple, who announced their separation in July 2023 after seven years of marriage, lived “different lives” before they eventually came to the decision to part ways amicably.
While Vergara and Manganiello may tell their story another way, one thing is quite clear—there’s more to this breakup than meets the eye.
