    Who Is Portia De Rossi?

    Amanda Lee Rogers was Portia’s initial name. She was born in Australia. As a youngster, she modeled for advertisements both in print and on television. She grew up in the neighborhood of Grovedale, which is located in Geelong, Victoria. Rogers changed her name to Portia de Rossi in 1988, when she was 15 years old. That is the moniker by which she is recognized today. In 2005, she said she had indicated that she had meant to reinvent herself by taking the name Portia.

    It was a character from William Shakespeare’s ‘The Merchant of Venice‘, and an Italian last name. Portia was a merchant in Venice. She attended Geelong Grammar School and the University of Melbourne, both in Victoria, Australia, where she earned degrees in law. Portia then became an Australian-American actress. She is best known for her roles as Nelle Porter on the drama series ‘Ally McBeal‘. Her role was quite good and she was nominated for a Screen Actors Guild Award.

    Portia established the art firm General Public and currently serves as its CEO. In addition, she played Olivia Lord on the American television drama series ‘Nip/Tuck‘ and Veronica Palmer on the sitcom ‘Better Off Ted‘. Portia is also known to be a big philanthropist as she keeps donating. She recently supported the organization Locks of Love, which donate human hair and wig.     How Did Ellen DeGeneres Meet Portia?

    The love story of Portia De Rossi and Ellen DeGeneres is old and gold. The duo has known each other for more than two decades now. The couple first met in 2001 at a concert. It was a short meeting and they just exchanged greetings. However, it was not until 2004 that the reunion happened. Portia visited Ellen for a photo shoot and an instant connection was felt. The duo began their talking phase in December 2004. In 2005, she gave an interview to The Advocate in which she discussed her sexual orientation for the first time in a public forum.

    After coming out as gay, things became even easier for the duo. The relationship between Portia and Ellen was made official. In the same year, the couple also started living together. Finally, in May of 2008, Ellen announced on her famous talk show that she would soon tie the knot with her longtime girlfriend. Exactly after a month in August 2008, Ellen and Portia got married at their Beverly Hills home in front of their moms and 17 other guests.

    On August 6, 2010, de Rossi submitted the necessary paperwork to alter her name in accordance with the law to Portia Lee James DeGeneres. The petition was approved on September 23rd, 2010. In September 2011, she was declared a citizen of the United States.
