Elon Musk’s first marriage is getting a major new spotlight, and his ex-wife Justine Musk is not holding back.
In the new four-hour documentary ‘Musk‘, Justine gets candid about their relationship, claiming she learned the term “gaslighting” because of her experiences during their marriage.

Oscar-winning filmmaker Alex Gibney directed Musk, which premiered at the Venice Film Festival on Tuesday, September 8. A wider theatrical release is set for October 16. Elon chose not to participate in the documentary and has already made his feelings pretty clear, dismissing the entire project on social media as a “hit piece.”
Justine married the 55-year-old billionaire in 2000, and they divorced in 2008. The former couple shares five surviving children. Justine recalled one comment from their wedding day that hits very differently now. During their first dance, she alleged Elon whispered, “I am the alpha in this relationship.”
According to Justine, things became increasingly difficult between them. She alleged Elon regularly criticized her, spoke to her like she was an employee, and made her feel “insignificant.” Justine explained, “I learned the term ‘gaslighting’ through my relationship with Elon.” She added, “He was constantly remarking on the ways he found me lacking.”
Justine Challenges Elon’s Account Of Their Son’s Death
The documentary also gets incredibly personal when Justine discusses their firstborn son, Nevada, who died from Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS) at only 10 weeks old. Elon claimed in a 2022 social media post that he held Nevada when their baby died. Justine disputes his version of events and says she was actually holding their son when he passed away.

Another painful family situation comes up when Justine discusses Elon’s total estrangement from their transgender daughter Vivian. Justine alleged Elon cut off Vivian’s health insurance after she came out and has “never tried to repair things.”
Justine also claimed Elon once asked her to deliver a message to Vivian saying, “I’ll always love her.” Today, Justine lives in Los Angeles and works as a contemporary fantasy author, essayist, and public speaker. Following their highly publicized 2008 divorce, she built an independent life around writing and advocacy, far away from her former husband’s massive tech empire.
